Abstract: An apparatus for inputting commodity data including a bar code scanner having a reading window on a front surface thereof, a keyboard for inputting the commodity data which keyboard is supported at an upper portion of the bar code scanner, and a supporting member for rotatably supporting the bar code scanner in such a manner that the bar code scanner can be rotated about a horizontal pivotal axis. The bar code scanner can be rotated according to the kind of a commodity or the height of a cashier. Accordingly, a bar code of the commodity can be placed to a laser beam scanning area by the cashier in a natural posture, and can be read by the bar code scanner reliably and easily.

Abstract: An apparatus for reading commodity data is disclosed which comprises a support member and a reader formed of a reader body and a reading window provided on one face of the reader body, in which the reader is attached to the support member for ascending and descending movement. The height of the reading window can thus be adjusted according to the stature of the operator enabling the operator to perform a tireless reading operation.

Abstract: A check-out counter table has a commodity receiving wall which extends leftwardly and rightwardly of a vertical type bar code reader having a reading window formed in a front wall thereof. A stopper adapted to present a high contacting resistance is provided at a location on the commodity receiving wall directly forwardly of the bar code reader on the carrying in side for a basket. When a basket is pulled toward an operator and slipped on the commodity receiving wall, it is always stopped at a fixed position by the stopper.

Abstract: An image reading device includes a reading window which an article is set to face, a main light source for emitting first light beam which is emitted via the reading window to a limited external space to scan the article, and an image detection circuit for reading a bar code formed on an article from the first light beam reflected on the article placed within the limited external space and has traveled via the reading window. The image reading device further includes a light source control circuit for detecting that no article is set within the limited external space, to thereby inhibit the activation of the main light source.

Abstract: A point-of-sale register system includes an electronic cash register connected to a central inventory control unit to serve as a terminal device of a point-of-sale system: an optical scanner, which is electrically connected to the cash register, for optically scanning a bar code mounted on a product; and a weighing machine for weighing a product. The optical scanner includes a receiving section for receiving a product to be weighed thereon. The optical scanner is connected to the weighing machine so that the weight of the product placed on the optical scanner is transmitted to a measuring device of the weighing machine for measurement of the weight of the product. If a bar code is on the product which is placed on the receiving section of the optical scanner, the optical scanner scans the bar code of the product.

Abstract: A bar code reading apparatus comprises a reading unit for optically reading a bar code and generating an output data corresponding to this bar code, a memory, and a data processing unit for storing the output data from the reading unit into the memory and making a bar code data in accordance with the content of the memory. This reading apparatus further has a mode selection flag (PSF) for selectively instructing either one of the first and second modes, and the data processing unit stores the output data from the reading unit as it is into the memory when the first mode is designated by the mode selection flag (PSF), while the data processing unit stores the inverted data of the output data from the reading unit into the memory when the second mode is set by the mode selection flag (PSF).
