    Abstract: Disclosed are compounds and methods for preventing or treating necroinflammation associated with ferroptotic processes. The method includes inhibiting 15 lipoxygenase/phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein (15LOX/PEBP1) complex, wherein the inhibitor exhibits a higher binding affinity or binding activity for 15LOX/PEBP1 complex compared to 15LOX alone. Necroinflammation associated with ferroptotic processes causes several pathogenic conditions including upper or lower respiratory disorders, acute or chronic brain injury, renal injury, injury by radiation, neurodegenerative disorder, among others. The disclosed compounds and methods are useful in subjects diagnosed with one or more of these conditions.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a composition and related methods for delivering cargo to a mitochondria which includes (a) a membrane active peptidyl fragment having a high affinity with the mitochondria and (b) cargo. The cargo may be selected from a wide variety of desired cargos which are to be delivered to the mitochondria for a specific purpose. Compositions and methods are disclosed for treating an illness that is caused or associated with cellular damage or dysfunction which is caused by excessive mitochondrial production of reaction oxygen species (ROS). Compositions which act as mitochondria-selective targeting agents using the structural signaling of the ?-turn recognizable by cells as mitochondria) targeting sequences are discussed. Mitochondria and cell death by way of apoptosis is inhibited as a result of the ROS-scavenging activity, thereby increasing the survival rate of the patient.

    Abstract: The invention provides an oil-based pharmaceutical composition comprising as an active ingredient phostphatidylserine or a derivative thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable oil-based carrier, which is formulated for topical or intratumoral administration. Preferably, the composition is an ointment or a cream. The composition can contain additional active agents as well, such as aminophospholipid translocase inhibitors, transnitrosylating agents, chemokines, cytokines, Toll-like receptor ligands, imidazoquinolines, dendritic cell differentiation factors, or combinations thereof. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of treating cancer within a patient in need of treatment by administering the inventive composition to the patient.
