  • Patent number: 4400282
Abstract: Hydrocarbon lubricating oils with a tetrahydrocarbylammonium thiomolybdate having at least about 19 carbon atoms, such as dicocodimethylammonium thiomolybdate, solubilized in the oil are characterized by improved anti-friction properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 15, 1980
Date of Patent: August 23, 1983
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
Inventors: Gary M. Singerman, Yumi P. Ryu, James R. Anglin
  • Patent number: 4383931
Abstract: The antifriction properties of a lubricating oil are enhanced by the addition of a minor amount of an oil-soluble molybdenyl bis-.beta.-diketonate. The antifriction properties are particularly enhanced when the molybdenyl bis-.beta.-diketonate is used in combination with an oil-soluble active sulfur donor, such as a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 1981
Date of Patent: May 17, 1983
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
Inventors: Yumi P. Ryu, Robert J. Hartle
  • Patent number: 4370245
Abstract: The presence of a minor amount of a tetrahydrocarbylammonium thiomolybdate containing at least about 15 carbon atoms, such as trioctylmethylammonium thiomolybdate, to a grease thickened with a substituted-urea composition substantially improves the extreme pressure properties of the grease.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 24, 1980
Date of Patent: January 25, 1983
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
Inventors: Yumi P. Ryu, James R. Anglin, Gary M. Singerman
  • Patent number: 4343746
Abstract: Novel quaternary ammonium thiomolybdates are prepared by contacting an aqueous solution of a thiomolybdate salt with a solution of a water-insoluble quaternary ammonium salt in a water-immiscible organic solvent. For example, mixing a solution of dicocodimethylammonium chloride in toluene with an aqueous solution of potassium thiomolybdate results in a toluene solution containing dicocodimethylammonium thiomolybdate. These quaternary ammonium thiomolybdates find use as additives in motor oils and greases to enhance their antifriction characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 10, 1980
Date of Patent: August 10, 1982
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
Inventors: James R. Anglin, Yumi P. Ryu, Gary M. Singerman
  • Patent number: 4343747
Abstract: Quaternary ammonium thiomolybdates are prepared in a two-phase reaction system by contacting an aqueous solution of a thiomolybdate salt with a solution of a quaternary ammonium salt in a water-immiscible organic solvent. For example, mixing a solution of dicocodimethylammonium chloride in toluene with an aqueous solution of potassium thiomolybdate results in a toluene solution containing dicocodimethylammonium thiomolybdate.

Date of Patent: August 10, 1982
Assignee: Gulf Research & Development Company
