  • Patent number: 10393631
Abstract: A method for extracting protein from a fat sample is described comprising the steps of separating solidified fat and solid residues from a centrifuged mixture of protein, fat, other solid materials and aqueous solution of phosphate buffered saline to form an aqueous phase containing the protein. The aqueous phase is then filtered through a filter to separate a clear protein extract from the mixture.

  • Publication number: 20090181410
Abstract: The present invention relates in part to antibodies for the performance of immunoassays to determine whether a test sample, such as a food sample, contains tissue derived from a Pangasius species of fish, such as tra or basa. Such antibodies, either alone or in combination, specifically bind to a thermostable antigen from a Pangasius species. The present invention further relates to methods for conducting immunoassays that may use such antibodies to detect the presence of a test antigen in a test sample that is derived from a Pangasius species of fish, such as tra or basa. In addition, such antibodies may be part of a test kit that may also contain one or more test reagent(s) or items of test equipment.

  • Patent number: 7141430
Abstract: A method for measuring an evolution rate of a gas from a sample includes equilibrating a sample with an alkaline solution and a pH indicator and permitting the alkaline solution to absorb formed carbon dioxide in an enclosed headspace. From the pH indicator at equilibrium is determined a time increment at which an increment of the alkaline solution is consumed by the CO2. Carbon dioxide evolution rate is calculated from the time increment, the volume increment, and the alkaline solution concentration. A device for performing this measurement includes a sample vial and a reaction chamber having an opening adapted for mating with a sample vial opening and an opening for receiving the solution. The reaction chamber is dimensioned for equilibrating the sample with the alkaline solution and for determining the time increment required for an increment of the alkaline solution to be consumed by CO2.

  • Patent number: 6894029
Abstract: Compositions of substantially homogeneous type II-like collagen from invertebrates belonging to the class Scyphozoa, phylum Coelenterata, i.e., jellyfish, particularly Stomolophus meleagris, and methods for its extraction are provided. Methods for the treatment of arthritis, in particular rheumatoid arthritis, by administering an effective amount of the collagen-containing compositions of the invention so as to induce immune tolerance, are also provided.
