  • Patent number: 7830768
Abstract: A high-density read-only optical disc, and an optical disc apparatus and method using the same. The apparatus and method record data on a lead-in area of a high-density read-only optical disc such as a BD-ROM (Blu-ray disc ROM (Read Only Memory)) in the form of pre-pit strings associated with an HFM (High-Frequency Modulated) groove applied to a BD-RW (Blu-ray Disc Rewritable). Moreover, the apparatus and method continuously apply the same tracking servo operation to an entire area of the same high-density read-only optical disc or rewritable optical disc. Therefore, the apparatus and method can simplify an algorithm for controlling a plurality of tracking servo operations, and avoid an increased size of the optical disc apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7656765
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for controlling a tracking servo in a near field optics. Gap error signals are detected in a divided state, and a push pull signal is compensated based on the detected gap error signals. A photo detector detecting the gap error signals is divided into two areas such that movement of an image formed on the photo detector can be detected. The push pull signal is compensated by subtracting a value proportional to a difference value between the two gap error signals detected in the photo detector. The difference value between the two gap error signals is proportional to a dc offset component included in the push pull signal. Accordingly, it is possible to simply remove a dc offset included in a push pull signal without largely modifying the near field optics, so that it is possible to exactly perform a tracking servo operation.

  • Publication number: 20090161522
Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing and/or recording a recording medium (50) are disclosed. For example, the apparatus includes a lens unit (40) consisting of a near-field lens (42), which takes the form of a part of a sphere and has a thickness larger than a radius of the sphere and smaller than a diameter of the sphere, and an objective lens (41) for compensating for spherical aberration of the near-field lens. When the recording medium includes a protective layer (52) for isolating the recording layers from the outside, an effective numerical aperture of the lens unit is smaller than a refractive index of the protective layer. The recording medium further includes one or more recording layers (51). The apparatus has an advantage of providing the lens unit suitable for a near field and easy to manufacture and the recording medium including the protective layer or spacer layer suitable for a near field.

  • Publication number: 20070237058
Abstract: A method of effectively determining a recording medium, a recording and reproducing method using the same, and a recording and reproducing apparatus using the same are disclosed. Since a narrow distance between a lens and the recording medium must be maintained in the recording and reproducing using a near field, the recording and reproducing apparatus further includes a focus adjuster to adjust a position where a light beam is focused. When a variation of a signal generated during the scanning of focuses is detected by adjusting the focus adjuster, it is possible to determine the recording medium.
