    Abstract: A method and a device for calibrating an SOC at tail end of charging or discharging of an energy storage system are provided. An SOC and a voltage of a battery unit are acquired in real time during charging or discharging of the battery unit. Whether the battery unit meets an SOC calibration condition is determined by comparing the SOC of the battery unit with a pre-calibrated calibration SOC at the tail end of charging/discharge and comparing the voltage of the battery unit with a calibration voltage, so that the SOC of the battery unit is timely calibrated if the SOC calibration condition is met.

    Abstract: A method for measuring and monitoring the state of polarization (SOP) of a polarization maintaining (PM) fiber using a narrowband fiber Bragg grating (FBG) written on the same is provided. The PM fiber comprises a first narrowband reference FBG which is used as a reference to measure and monitor the SOP of the PM fiber. Due to the birefringence properties of the PM fiber, the reference FBG typically reflects two narrowband spectra, each having a central wavelength; one in the slow axis and one in the fast axis. By measuring the intensity of the reflected spectra in each axis and by tuning the fiber with a polarization controller, it is possible to adjust the fiber to a predetermined SOP. Accurate measures of optical properties (e.g. reflectivity) of optical devices (e.g. a FBG grating), according to the predetermined SOP, are possible.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a method and a system for writing fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) having apodized spectrum (“apodized FBG”) on optical fibers. An amplitude modulation mask is placed between a focusing cylindrical lens and the optical fiber. By reducing the distance between the amplitude mask and the fiber, the present invention can minimize diffraction effects that may be induced by long propagation distance of a laser beam passing through a small and/or narrow aperture in the amplitude mask. The method and system of the present invention can be applied to write FBG with apodized spectrum with small amplitude mask to achieve full width at half maximum (FWHM) bandwidth (BW) wider than 1.2 nm and to achieve side lobe suppression ratio (SLSR) as high as 30 dB. These method and system generally increase the laser power efficiency of the laser used in FBG inscription and optimizes the grating index modulation profile.
