    Abstract: A system processes 2D images of 2D or 3D objects, creating a model of the object that is consistent with the image and as veridical as the perception of the 2D image by humans. Vertices of the object that are hidden in the image are recovered by using planarity and symmetry constraints. The 3D shape is recovered by maximizing 3D compactness of the recovered object and minimizing its surface area. In some embodiments, these two criteria are weighted by using the geometric mean.

In one example, three pairs of symmetric points establish an initial relationship between the original image and a virtual image, then additional pairs of symmetric points in the original image are reconstructed. In each pair, a visible point and an occluded point are mapped into 3-space with a single free variable characterizing the mapping for all pairs. A value for the free variable is then selected to maximize compactness of the model, where compactness is defined as a function of the model's volume and its surface area. “Noise” correction derives from enforcing symmetry and selecting best-fitting polyhedra for the model. Alternative embodiments extend this to additional polyhedra, add image segmentation, use perspective, and generalize to asymmetric polyhedra and non-polyhedral objects.

Disclosed are sodium and potassium salts of 7-(?-((N,N?-diisopropylamidino)thio)acetylamino)-3-(((1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-2-methyl-5,6-dioxo-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)thio)methyl) cephalosporanic acid as presented by the general structure (I), their preparation, and their use. The antibiotics of the invention can be used to treat diseases caused by Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria such as septicaemia, gastrointestinal tract infection, and urinary tract infection. They have increased half-life in blood and lowered toxicity. They can reduce the frequency of drug use and lower medical treatment costs. They have improved stability and can be stored at ambient temperatures. The method of the invention is simple, and it produces high purity products which can meet the requirements of clinical use.

When a threshold vibration is detected a vibration estimate is combined with the control signal to compensate for the vibration.     Abstract: Methods of controlling seeking of a transducer that is adjacent to a rotatable disk in a disk drive are disclosed. The methods may include accelerating the transducer radially across the rotatable disk from an initial track on the rotatable disk toward a destination track on the rotatable disk, estimating a deceleration switching position/velocity point, estimating a maximum deceleration position/velocity point following the deceleration switching position/velocity point, and estimating a deceleration current required to decelerate the transducer from a non-zero velocity at the maximum deceleration position/velocity point to zero velocity at the destination track. The estimated deceleration current is compared to a maximum available deceleration current, and responsive to a determination that the current required to decelerate the transducer from the maximum deceleration point to the destination track exceeds the maximum available deceleration current, the estimated deceleration switching point is adjusted.

The piezoelectric sensor element is electrically isolated from the piezoelectric actuator element. A method for detecting a vibration in a hard disk drive actuator assembly is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A system provided for protecting a disk drive from impact damages. More specifically, a disk drive is provided that includes an accelerometer interconnected to a printed circuit board that detects free fall of the disk drive. In addition, the velocity of spinning disks of the disk drive is also monitored to assess changes in velocity thereof that may indicate the presence of a tumbling condition. Furthermore, the change in acceleration measured by the accelerometer is monitored to prevent false indications of free fall due to common vibrations. Thus an enhanced system is provided that protects disk drives from the effect of free falls under a wide variety of conditions and allowing for drops from shorter distances to be identified.

    Abstract: A method is provided for identifying offsets of accelerometers integrated into hard disk drives. More specifically, often, disk drives employ accelerometers that constantly monitor the acceleration felt by the disk drive. Once the accelerations are less than a predetermined threshold, a free fall event is identified and an actuator arm that is generally positioned above the disk is placed in a safe location prior to impact. Accelerometers must be calibrated prior to use such that their inherent errors are identified and factored into the algorithm that identifies free fall. The method provided herein allows for the 0 g offset to be monitored without having to reorient the device being tested, thus saving time and money.

The actuator is controlled to move the transducer toward a target track on the disk during an initial phase of a seek mode during which the transducer is primarily accelerated toward the target track. During a settle phase of the seek mode which follows the initial phase the actuator is controlled to settle the transducer onto the target track. An initial position, an initial velocity, and an initial acceleration of the transducer are determined at a phase switch time at about when control of the actuator switches from the initial phase to the settle phase of the seek mode. Feed-forward control information is generated based on the determined initial position, initial velocity, and initial acceleration of the transducer.
