  • Patent number: 4395501
Abstract: A process is provided for the production of vulcanizates having improved properties wherein polymer (or polymers) is mixed with carbon black in two separate steps such that in one step a major proportion of the carbon black to be used is mixed with polymer and in a second step a zero to minor proportion of the carbon black to be used is mixed with polymer. Such improved vulcanizates may be used, for example, in tires or a variety of mechanical goods.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1981
Date of Patent: July 26, 1983
    Assignee: Polysar Limited
Inventors: George J. Briggs, Yung-Kang Wei
  • Patent number: 4222906
Abstract: An improved method is provided for processing of rubbers in which one of the rubbers is a synthetic green strength polymer, the improvement being the addition of the synthetic green strength polymer at the second stage of mixing rather than at the prior art first stage. The method can be used for preparing rubber compounds whenever a synthetic green strength polymer is used as one component of the rubber compound.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 1978
Date of Patent: September 16, 1980
    Assignee: Polysar Limited
Inventors: George J. Briggs, Yung-Kang Wei
  • Patent number: 4052542
Abstract: Synthetic rubber compositions of improved green strength are prepared by reacting a rubbery polymer containing small amounts of tertiary amine groups bound in the polymer chain with a dihalogen compound having halogen groups located in the molecule of the compound in conjugated relationship to a carbonyl group. An example of a suitable rubbery polymer is a terpolymer of butadiene, styrene and dimethylanunoethyl methacrylate. An example of a suitable dihalogen compound is 4,4'-bis (bromoacetyl) diphenyl.

    Assignee: Polysar Limited
Inventors: Yung-Kang Wei, Zbigniew Jack Lobos
  • Patent number: 4005053
Abstract: An improved masterbatch of polymer, oil and carbon black is provided, and a process for the manufacture thereof, in which the polymer contains reactive groups and the masterbatch contains a crosslinking agent reactive with the reactive groups of the polymer in sufficient amount to form a low concentration of crosslinks in order to increase the strength of the polymer, the crosslinks being easily broken by the action of shear and/or heat and reformable thereafter, so that high levels of oil and carbon black can be incorporated into the masterbatch.
