  • Patent number: 7492823
Abstract: A signal adaptive filtering method for reducing blocking effect and ringing noise, a signal adaptive filter, and a computer readable medium. The signal adaptive filtering method capable of reducing blocking effect and ringing noise of image data when a frame is composed of blocks of a predetermined size includes the steps of: (a) generating blocking information for reducing the blocking effect and ringing information for reducing the ringing noise, from coefficients of predetermined pixels of the upper and left boundary regions of the data block when a frame obtained by deconstructing a bitstream image data for inverse quantization is an intraframe; and (b) adaptively filtering the image data passed through inverse quantization and inverse discrete cosine transform according to the generated blocking information and ringing information. Therefore, the blocking effect and ringing noise can be eliminated from the image restored from the block-based image, thereby enhancing the image restored from compression.

  • Publication number: 20080317131
Abstract: An adaptive motion estimation/compensation device and a method thereof for MB-based illumination change are disclosed. If a macro block mode is determined as a newly designed P_L0_16×16_Mean by calculating the sum of an absolute difference, the motion estimation device CABAC-codes the absolute difference between the pixel mean of a current frame and the pixel mean of a candidate pattern block and transmits the CABAC-coded absolute difference to a pertinent decoder. With the present invention, the transmission amount of the bit stream transmitted to the decoder for decoding can be minimized by maximizing corresponding compressing rate.

  • Publication number: 20080310503
Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for entropy-encoding/entropy-decoding video data. The method of entropy-encoding video data includes binarizing coefficients of the frequency domain, which are generated by transforming a residual block of a current block into the frequency domain, using different binarization methods and performing binary arithmetic coding on the binarized coefficients. In this way, the coefficients are binarized adaptively according to whether the frequencies of the coefficients are high or low, thereby improving the compression efficiency of the video data.

  • Publication number: 20080159386
Abstract: A loop-filtering method for reducing quantization effect generated when an image data is encoded and decoded, and an apparatus therefor. The loop-filtering method includes the steps of extracting a flag indicating whether the image data requires loop-filtering using the distribution of inverse quantized coefficients (IQCs) of an inverse quantized image data and a motion vector indicating the difference between the previous frame and the current frame. The image data corresponding to the flag is then filtered by a predetermined method if the extracted flag indicates a need for the loop-filtering. Using the flags and an adaptive filter reduces the quantization effect and is useful to reduce the amount of computation required for the filtering. Also, the filtering can be performed through parallel processing without multiplication and division, so that the complexity of hardware can be reduced.
