Abstract: A method for registering a dental model on a tray base includes obtaining a dental model that is an impression of at least some of a patient's teeth; disposing the dental model on a tray base; drilling at least one registration pin hole from a bottom of the tray base, through the tray base, and into a bottom of the dental model while the dental model is disposed on the tray base; and inserting at least one registration pin into the at least one registration pin hole with the at least one registration pin extendable between the dental model and the tray base.

Abstract: A dental articulating system and method configured to duplicate at least a portion of a patient's mouth for use in producing a dental prosthesis securing an impression tray to a flexible and resilient material on a stabilizing plate of an alignment fixture. The position of the impression tray is adjusted on the flexible and resilient material. A tray base is detachably secured to a bottom of the alignment fixture. The tray base with the alignment fixture thereon is placed on a drilling fixture. A drill bit is aligned with a location of an impression corresponding to a prepped tooth of the impression tray. A hole is drilled in the tray base corresponding to the prepped tooth.

A plurality of registration pins is disposable in a plurality of registration pin holes formed in at least one of the trays. A thin membrane is disposed across a registration pin hole to close off the registration pin hole and resist dental casting material from substantially filling the registration pin hole. The thin membrane is breakable by a registration pin inserted into the registration pin hole. A method for forming a dental model includes pressing a registration pin through a thin membrane extending across a registration pin hole on at least one of the trays of a dental articulator so that the registration pin breaks the thin membrane and extends through the thin membrane.

A magnet recess is carried by either the tray base or the plate, and a ferrous recess is carried by the other of the tray base or the plate. The magnet recess receiving a magnet element therein and the ferrous recess receiving a ferrous element therein. The magnet recess having a magnet opening configured to receive the magnet therethrough, the magnet opening facing away from the ferrous recess so that at least a lip is disposed between the magnet recess and the ferrous recess.

A posterior stop rod can be slidable into and securably disposable in the stop rod opening. The stop rod can have an end configured to provide a physical stop between the model bases to retain a desired occlusal relationship between the model bases.
