  • Publication number: 20200301015
Abstract: Systems and methods for localization are provided. In one aspect, a LIDAR scan is captured from above to generate a point cloud. One or more locations may be sampled in the point cloud and LIDAR scans may be simulated at each location. The sampled locations and associated simulated LIDAR scans may be used to train a regressor to localize vehicles in the environment that are at poses different from the pose from which the LIDAR point cloud was captured. In one aspect, a mapping UAV systematically scans an environment with a camera to generate a plurality of map images. The map images are stitched together into an orthographic image. A runtime UAV captures one or more runtime images of the environment with a camera. Feature matching is performed between the runtime images and the orthographic image for localization. In one aspect, a first machine learning model is trained to transform a camera image into a LIDAR image and a second machine learning model is trained to estimate a pose based on a LIDAR image.

  • Publication number: 20160256910
Abstract: The principles of the present invention further provide both a shaped metal container and its preforms that exhibit a rounded grain structure characteristic created by an annealing process and a method for making a shaped metal container. The process of making said metal container results in a quicker process time and uses less metals (at least 10% metal weight savings), thus allowing for a decrease in the costs of making such shaped metal containers. A shaped metal container may include work hardened rolled sheet-metal defining a sidewall, an opening, and a base, where at least one section along the sidewall has grains with an average aspect ratio less than about 4 to 1.

  • Patent number: 9202140
Abstract: Described herein is a technology for facilitating classification of an object. In one implementation, at least one quotient appearance manifold mapping is constructed from a sample image to untangle appearance fiber bundles. A feature characteristic of the sample image may then be extracted based on the quotient appearance manifold mapping. A classifier may further be trained based on the extracted feature, and adapted for associating the object with an object class.
