  • Publication number: 20100185707
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to manage reference movies using an index file, without causing the user to be perplexed. The reference movies are generated because of, for instance, the upper limit of the file size. The index file manages sets of information regarding the files being managed. Examples of these sets of information are information for determining whether or not a file is presented to the user, information for determining whether or not a file is original, and information indicating whether or not nondestructive editing has been done. Based on such information, the erasure, displaying a list, and so on are carried out. Thus, it is possible to manage the reference movies using the index file, without causing the user to be perplexed.

  • Patent number: 7653285
Abstract: A system records an AV stream composed of a plurality of record units (RUs) containing independently reproducible video units (VUs) of at least video or audio and program information (Movie atom) managing the AV stream, onto a recording medium. The program information contains a piece of information (Edit list atom) that manages a point of junction between the record units or between AV streams. In decoding the AV stream, decoding is halted or decoders are switched at the point of junction, based on the management information on the points of junction, for example.

  • Patent number: 7406491
Abstract: Areas are hierarchically ensured as directories for data to be recorded in advance. Therefore directories and files are continuously arranged as much as possible on a disk, and the number of seeks during data read, which is conventionally large because other data is mixed in the same area, is decreased as few as possible. When the files and directories belonging to directory 1 (DIR1) and directory 2 (DIR2) are recorded on a disk and when the files and directories belonging to directory 1 (DIR1) are recorded in an area-ensuring mode, an area on a disk for the files and directories belonging to the directory 1 (DIR1) is ensured previously. The positions where lower-order Files 1, 2 and directories of the directory 1 (DIR1) are recorded in an area concerning the directory 1 (DIR1) as in the case of File 1-1, File 1-2, and File 12. File 3 of the directory 2 (DIR2) is not recorded in continuous areas for the directory 1 (DIR1).

  • Patent number: 7130525
Abstract: A management system for a recording medium recorded with a multimedia data stream wherein in a first data made up of video and sound, an amount of data for a predetermined playback period is managed as a first unit (EU), an individually reproducible minimum unit of data in the first unit (EU) is managed as a second unit (VU), each of the first units (EUs) is adapted to have an equal period of playback time to others, and each of the second units (VUs) is adapted to have an equal period of playback time to others. In this management system, the positional information of the second unit (VU) on the recording medium is held as management information for every second unit, so that the positional information of the first unit (EU) on the recording medium is calculated based on the positional information of the second unit (VU) on the recording medium.

  • Publication number: 20060007814
Abstract: An original stream file and an after-recording data file are managed as different files. In the original stream file, data is made up of sets of partial data (CU) divided in accordance with a predetermined interval. Likewise, in the after-recording data file, data is made up of sets of partial data (CA) divided in accordance with a predetermined interval. These sets of data are recorded onto a disc such that the after-recorded data (CA) is recorded in a region adjacent to a relevant original stream (CU). This allows reproduction and real-time after-recording with the use of a general MPEG-2 PS/TS decoder. Moreover, this allows realization of data recording that causes less interruption of reproduction when non-destructive editing is carried out with respect to an after-recorded result.

  • Publication number: 20050157599
Abstract: In write-once media, there occurs wasted recording space at the time of update of an index file for AV file management. In view of this, a new index file is generated at the time of update, and thumbnail image data in an existing index file is referred to, whereby the wasted space is reduced, At the same time, attribute information is stored in the new index file, whereby high-speed access to minimum information required can be realized.

  • Publication number: 20030163449
Abstract: When the management area and the actual data area are separated beforehand in a filesystem and the management area is replicated to perform backup, the maximum number of files to be managed will be limited by the size of the management area because it is necessary to reserve the management area and the backup management area beforehand. In a filesystem in which the management area and the data area are recorded into a common area, it is impossible to use a replicating technique of the entire management area since there is no concept of the management area.

  • Publication number: 20030076764
Abstract: When one recording medium is accessed from a multiple number of applications, the medium is usually divided into multiple areas. If this area division is performed and managed by the partitioning, it is difficult to change the partitions in size. Therefore, there has been the problem that the recording medium can not be used effectively. The recording medium is divided into multiple areas, and for each area, a dummy data is written into the blank space in the area so that dummy data can only be overwritten using a particular application or with a file of a particular type. This configuration makes it easy to divide the medium into multiple areas and change the areas in size.
