  • Patent number: 7884787
Abstract: The invention has an object of providing a display device which can make a full use of a mirror functionality even in a dark environment. A display device comprising: image forming means (50, 60, 70, 71) for displaying information to be displayed during one state external light during the other state; input means (30) for inputting a mirror function executing instruction; and control means (82) for causing the image forming means to be switched to the other state in response to the mirror-function executing instruction. The display device further comprises an illumination unit (91) for irradiating an object to be reflected in the mirror (60) with light during the other state.

  • Patent number: 7446835
Abstract: To be realized the well-lighted display by using the whole pixels in the reflective mode and the transmissive mode. In a reflective mode, an optical element 13 is used as liquid crystal display element. That is, the optical element 13 operates as liquid crystal display element by applying the voltage. In this case, the optical element 13 reflects the external light since the optical element 13 is a scattering state with regard to non-applying pixel (arrow B). In a transmissive mode, a liquid crystal panel 12 is used as liquid crystal display element. That is, the liquid crystal panel 12 operates as liquid crystal display element by applying the voltage. In this case, the optical element 13 passes light from a backlight 11 since the optical element 13 is a transmissive state (arrow A). And the optical element 13 plays a color filter part and does not operates as display element.

  • Publication number: 20060146239
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a pixel electrode and a liquid crystal display device using it, which can reduce improper reflected light. A pixel electrode 1 for applying a voltage for each pixel. This pixel electrode comprises: a reflective area portion 1r reflecting a light ray from a display screen side in such a manner that the light ray is along a predetermined bidirectional optical path within a pixel; a transmissive area portion 1t transmitting a light ray from a rear side to the display screen side in such a manner that the light ray is along a predetermined unidirectional optical path within the pixel; and a transition area portion 1TR being formed between the reflective area portion 1r and the transmissive area portion 1t and including a portion 4c in which the reflective area portion 1r and the transmissive area portion 1t are coupled. The transition area portion 1TR is extended with an at least partly rounded shape on a plan view.

  • Publication number: 20060072055
Abstract: An object of the invention is to acquire uniform color purity within a pixel to make a good color reproduction and to easily manufacture it with few constraints. A color filter for coloring a first light ray L1 having a unidirectional optical path and a second light ray L2 having a bidirectional optical path for each pixel (10). The color filter comprises: a first coloring portion 10t for coloring the first light ray L1 and a second coloring portion L2 for coloring the second light ray L2, the first coloring portion 10t having a greater thickness than the second coloring portion 10r, the first coloring portion 10t being formed in subsidence with respect to the second coloring portion 10r with a principal plane of the first coloring portion 10t being different in height from a principal plane of the second coloring portion 10r by a predetermined value D.
