  • Patent number: 7842854
Abstract: Identification of a gene from monocotyledonous plants such as rice, which codes for a transcription factor specific to a stress tolerant gene and provision of a novel environmental stress tolerant plant using the gene. From the rice genome, a gene, which binds to a cis element existing upstream of the gene encoding a stress responsive protein and for a transcription factor to activate the transcription of the gene, is identified. Further, the gene of the transcription factor is used to transform a plant, thereby improving tolerance against environmental stresses such as low temperature, dehydration, and salt stresses.

  • Publication number: 20100273708
Abstract: The present invention provides adiponectin expression-inducing agents, and therapeutic agents using the same for obesity and obesity-related diseases such as cardiovascular diseases or metabolic diseases, as well as methods of searching for adiponectin expression-inducing agents. KLF9, which can bind to the 32-bp fragment of position ?188 to position ?157 from the adiponectin expression start site, was demonstrated to enhance adiponectin promoter activity. Therefore, the present invention uses KLF9 as an adiponectin expression-inducing agent, and suggests that KLF9 replenishment therapy is useful for preventing and/or treating obesity or obesity-related diseases including metabolic diseases such as insulin resistance and type II diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

  • Patent number: 7786613
Abstract: There is provided an electronic apparatus having a simple anti-theft mechanism. In this construction, a detachable panel unit is designed to render the electronic apparatus operative in a state of being attached to the electronic apparatus main body, and to render the electronic apparatus inoperative in a state of being detached from the electronic apparatus main body. By virtue of this configuration, the electronic apparatus main body, namely the electronic apparatus in itself can be prevented from being stolen from a vehicle simply by detaching the detachable panel unit and placing it in a secret area determined by users or others.

  • Publication number: 20080004782
Abstract: A processing time necessary from start by end of processing of a first processing group and a second processing group is calculated. A time difference between a dead line previously set as a maximum tolerance value of the processing time necessary by completion of the processing of the first processing group, and the calculated processing time is calculated. An initial value of a processing time allowable value of the second processing group is calculated based on the time difference. The processing time allowable value is updated at the time of processing in the operating system. It is judged whether or not the second processing group can be executable based on the updated processing time allowable value.

  • Patent number: 6526315
Abstract: A multi-function portable bioelectrical impedance measuring instrument is provided that is easily held in the hand, and has its electrodes and its controls arranged to be easily manipulated. Embodiments include an instrument wherein a pair of electrodes is arranged on the back of a main body of the instrument such that they are both contacted by a user's palm when the main body is held in the palm of the hand. Another pair of electrodes, a set of operating switches, and a display are located on the face (i.e., the front) of the main body such that two fingers of the other hand of the user can touch the electrodes simultaneously and operate the instrument to obtain a body fat occupancy ratio and/or pulse rate based on the impedance measured by the electrodes. A photoelectric detector is also provided on the face of the main body to produce a signal to provide a blood pressure reading or pulse rate.
