  • Patent number: 4682182
Abstract: A marking device comprises a movable arm having a working end carrying a marking tool, such as a marking head. A controller is associated with the movable arm and so programmed as to axially move the marking tool to a desired axial position opposing the inner or outer surface of the pipe and to circumferentially move the marking tool along the surface while applying a preset mark to the corresponding surface of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4590658
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the thickness of the wall of a tubular object includes a measurement of the intensity of a radiation beam passing through the walls and quantizing the indicated value of radiation detected by a detector with reference to a predetermined period of time. Data is expressed diagrammatically, and inflection points on the graph line indicating when the radiation beam contacts the outer and inner peripheral walls of the tube are determined and processed to thereby determine the wall thickness. There is also disclosed a method for aligning collimator members utilized in the radiation beam scanning equipment.

  • Patent number: 4589268
Abstract: According to the present invention, in a method of controlling a mill pacing in a rolling equipment wherein a plurality of serial rolling mills are provided downstream of a heating furnace in which a plurality of materials are rested on a furnace hearth integrally moving with the materials and can be successively extracted, respective rolling cycle times are sought from periods of time between the starts of rolling in respective rolling mills of a subsequent material to be extracted from the heating furnace and the readiness for rolling of the following material in the respective rolling mills, the maximum value of the above-described respective rolling cycle times is assumed as an extraction cycle time of the subsequent material to be extracted to thereby presuppose an extraction time of the subsequent material to be extracted from the heating furnace, allowable retard periods of time of the materials immediately before the respective rolling mills are predetermined, the presupposed retard periods of time of

  • Patent number: 4506531
Abstract: A control method for controlling the screwing down pressure provided in a reeling mill where the reels are controlled by a combination of signals continuously monitored by a computer. The signals include the temperature of the pipe entering the reeling mill, the voltage and current supplied to the reeling motor and the speed of the reeling motor. A calculation is then performed which gives the actual reduction of wall thickness based upon a predetermined relationship of the temperature of the pipe entering the reeling mill and the torque of the rolling motor. The torque is calculated based upon the speed, current and voltage of the rolling motor. The pressure supplied to the rolling reels is then altered based on this signal.

  • Patent number: 4491731
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the thickness of a tube wall while the tube experiences motion relative to the apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus comprises means for generating a radiation beam and means for positioning the beam relative to a tube so that the beam sequentially passes along at least three selected beam paths. Each beam path passes through at least two distinct measuring points within the cross section of the tube wall. At least three measuring points are passed through by at least two different radiation beams. Beam intensity detection means are provided for detecting the intensity of the transmitted beam after it passes through the tube wall, and produces a detected value of the intensity, which is supplied to a processing means which determines the tube wall thickness based upon the detected value after it transmitted through the tube and the known intensity value of the beam before it is transmitted through the tube.
