  • Patent number: 6702297
Abstract: A metal gasket used in an engine with a chain case, using a foam-rubber seal member shaped to withstand in practical use and having excellent long-lasting reliability and excellent durability. A total constitutive plate of the metal gasket is extended along the chain case to form an extended part. This extended part has a chain case hole. The foam-rubber seal member seals a chain case opening and a three-surface joining portion defined by the chain case, a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The foam-rubber seal member is a separate and distinct member and is a sheet-like and loop-like combination of layers of foam rubber and a metal core plate interposed between these foam rubber layers.

  • Patent number: 6457724
Abstract: With the objective of providing a metallic gasket which can realize both sealing performance and cost reduction which can be achieved by the decreased number of constituting plates or the decreased number of materials, the metallic gasket is composed of: a first bead plate which is made of elastic metal and has hot plug beads which are respectively formed opposite hot plugs; and a second bead plate which is made of elastic metal and has folded parts each of which is formed about the periphery of a bore hole and annular bore beads each of which is formed about the periphery of an area including the bore hole and a portion which is opposite to the hot plug.

  • Patent number: 6431554
Abstract: A metal gasket is disclosed in which a shim laid on a bead plate around bore apertures in the bead plate is varied in radial width along the peripheries of the bore apertures to compensate for sealing stress circumferentially of the bore apertures. The metal gasket is composed of a bead plate with beads around its bore apertures and a shim including annular areas defining bore apertures and bridges connecting together any two adjoining annular areas. The shim around the bore apertures has a radial width at the bridges, which is substantially equal with a width across a web defined between any adjoining cylinder bores formed in mating surfaces of the cylinder block and cylinder head. Moreover, the shim at areas other than the bridges is varied continuously in its radial width in a range of from a flat area around the bore apertures to an area corresponding to the bead on the bead plate.

  • Patent number: 6336639
Abstract: A metal gasket is disclosed which is used arranged between a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The metal gasket comprises carrier plates having thereon beads, and a stopper plate overlaid on the carrier plates and provided with folded constructions, which are each composed of a folded flange area and its counterpart area confronting each other so as to provide a gap of a preselected interval between them. The gaps exert elasticity on the folded flange areas continuously whenever the gasket is squeezed and loaded due to engine operation whereby the folded constructions may compensate for intolerable clearance that might occur owing to the distortion in fatigue of the cylinder block with respect to the gasket, with resulting in improving sealing performance of the gasket.

  • Patent number: 6027124
Abstract: A metal gasket in which a thin metal plate for reinforcing the beads of an elastic metal plate is laminated on bead regions only of the elastic metal plate, whereby a stable sealing performance is secured for a long period of time. This metal gasket comprises a thin metal plate provided with beads extending around the circumferences of parallel arranged combustion chamber holes, and an elastic metal plate having combustion chamber holes and extending with a predetermined width and laminated on the portions of the thin metal plate which are around the combustion chamber holes so as to be opposed to valley portions of the beads. The thickness of the thin metal plate is set smaller than that of the elastic metal plate.

  • Patent number: 5794945
Abstract: This metal gasket comprises a bead base plate with first beads and a sub-plate stacked on the bead base plate. The sub-plate is made of a thick metal plate and formed with second and third beads and stepped portions. The second beads, the third beads and the stepped portions combine to form triple seal lines, which improve the sealing function. The sub-plate is formed with the second beads opposing the first beads of the bead base plate, with the high third beads formed inside the second beads around the holes and with the stepped portions formed outside the second beads around the holes. The third beads prevent ingress of burning gases to the first beads and also serve as a stopper to prevent the first beads from being flattened completely. The third beads therefore can add durability to the sealing function realized by the first and second beads, enhancing the sealing performance of the first and second beads and reliably preventing burning gases from escaping between the opposing surfaces.
