  • Patent number: 7113473
Abstract: In an apparatus for recording information to an optical recording medium, a laser beam is irradiated to and reflected from the medium. A photodetector detects the light quantity of the irradiated or reflected light beam, and the detected laser beam is subjected to signal processing. Then, a sampler samples the laser beam at the timing of a sampling pulse which is supplied from a sampling pulse generator. Then, a controller controls the laser power according to the sampled laser beam. A pulse timing setting unit sets and adjusts the timing of the sampling pulse by taking into account the response time in the propagation path of the laser beam from the start of the irradiation to the sampling. Thus, the laser power can be monitored correctly, and the laser power can be optimized so as to stably and reliably reproduce an address signal and to generate a servo signal while data is being recorded.

  • Patent number: 6657935
Abstract: Multi-pulse trains of a forward laser beam are applied to an optical disc to record mark areas thereon. The multi-pulse trains correspond to the mark areas respectively. The multi-pulse trains represent information to be recorded. Detection is made as to an intensity of a reflected laser beam which results from reflection of the forward laser beam by the optical disc. The detected intensity is divided by a setting intensity to get a division result. A condition of recording of each of the mark areas is detected in response to the division result. An amplitude of each of the multi-pulse trains is controlled in response to the detected condition.

  • Patent number: 6456573
Abstract: An apparatus operates for recording and reproducing information on and from a recording medium formed with a track and pre-pits. The track has a wobble. The pre-pits are in a predetermined phase relation with the wobble of the track. The apparatus includes a pickup for reproducing a signal from the recording medium. A limiter operates for limiting an amplitude of the signal reproduced by the pickup in response to a limiting level, and thereby processing the signal reproduced by the pickup into a limiting-resultant signal. A filter operates for suppressing components of the limiting-resultant signal, and thereby processing the limiting-resultant signal into a filtering-resultant signal. The components have specified frequencies, and are caused by the pre-pits. The limiting level for the limiter is generated in response to the filtering-resultant signal. A signal caused by the wobble of the groove is extracted from the filtering-resultant signal.

  • Patent number: 5493548
Abstract: In an optical recording/reproduction apparatus having M optical heads which records and reproduces video and audio data transferred in a high speed using a head to be used as a reference and keeping the rotation of a disk in synchronism with inputted or outputted television video or audio signals, respective heads have their data delay memories corresponding to respective disk rotation waiting delay time for their respective installation position difference from the reference head. By giving recording-permission signals at record-starting addresses for respective heads for the input data and by giving the reproduction-permission signal for respective heads for the output data, simultaneous recording and simultaneous reproduction on different tracks of a disk can be realized.

  • Patent number: 5448539
Abstract: An optical recording and reproducing apparatus provided with a plurality of sets of optical heads each for recording data, which is obtained by dividing a sequence of video and audio data correspondingly of optical heads of each set, on an optical disk and reproducing such data therefrom at a high transfer rate. These sets of optical heads operate independently of each other. While one set of optical heads is recording or reproducing data on or from one set of regions of the disk, the other set of heads stands by on another set of regions and begins to record or play back immediately upon termination of recording or playback by the first set, to provide continuous recording and reproduction. The other set of heads preferably stand by on the leading address of the other set of regions.
