  • Patent number: 6717352
Abstract: A gap defined between cathode wires 2 having electron emitting sources 2a and control electrodes 4 is made uniform and a thickness of an insulation layer 3 interposed between both of them is made thin or the insulation layer 3 is eliminated whereby the electron emission characteristics and the high-frequency driving of high performance can be realized. The control electrodes 4 which have recessed portions 4c in plate-like members and have holes 4a for allowing electrons to pass therethrough in bottom portions thereof restrict the gap defined between the cathode wires 2 and the control electrodes 4 by adjusting a plate-thickness direction size of the holes 4a formed in the control electrodes 4.

  • Patent number: 6713947
Abstract: A display device can realize the highly efficient electron emission characteristics by ensuring the exposure of carbon nanotubes 13 in the inside of a vacuum by fixing the carbon nanotubes 13 to cathode wires 12 such that the carbon nanotubes 13 are not easily removed from the cathode wires 12 with the small resistance which enables the carbon nanotubes 13 to have the enough electron emission ability. Some end portions or some intermediate portions of the carbon nanotubes 13 are embedded into the cathode wires 12 formed on a rear substrate 11 and, at the same time, contact points where the carbon nanotubes 13 cross each other or portions in the vicinity of the crossing portions are bonded to each other by bonding films 14.

  • Publication number: 20040056586
Abstract: A field emission type display device adopts the structure in which one pixel is constituted of a combination of a plurality of small apertures and a plurality of small electron sources. Due to such a constitution, it is possible to reduce undesired electrons to control electrodes and to enhance of the heat resistance of the carbon nanotubes of electron sources, whereby it is possible to obtain a display device of high quality and long lifetime exhibiting the high-performance electron emission characteristic. Boron (B) is adhered to carbon nanotubes which constitute electron sources through the small apertures of the control electrodes and hence, the alignment of the small apertures and the small electron sources is ensured and the area of the electron source is set equal to or less than the area of the aperture.

  • Publication number: 20040021624
Abstract: The present invention can suppress rupture of distance holding members, a back substrate or a front substrate attributed to atmospheric pressure. In a display device of the present invention, between the back substrate having cathode lines and plate-member control electrodes and the front substrate, a large number of distance holding members which hold a distance between the substrates are mounted in an erected manner. At portions where the distance holding members are brought into contact with the back substrate and/or the front substrate, a buffering/fixing material which is constituted of a buffering material having high resiliency and an adhesive is interposed for dispersing the atmospheric pressure applied from the back substrate and the front substrate substantially uniformly. Further, the distance holding members are fixed between the back substrate and the front substrate by a heat treatment and pressurizing step.

  • Publication number: 20030160570
Abstract: To obtain a paste for electron sources which can enhance heat resistance of carbon nanotubes, which can suppress burn-out of the carbon nanotubes even during heating at a high temperature, and can exhibit a high electron emission performance, boron (B) is added to the paste formed of the carbon nanotubes and metal. Due to the addition of boron, the oxidation of the carbon nanotubes can be suppressed, and the degradation of the electron emission characteristics and the degradation of the uniformity of the emission of electrons during the heating process such as baking can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20030160738
Abstract: In a display device, a distance (a gap) between cathode lines (electron sources) and control electrodes is made uniform and a stray discharge attributed to the electron sources attached to the cathode lines which are exposed through between the neighboring plate-like control electrodes can be prevented. A display device comprises a back panel and a front panel on an inner surface of a back substrate. The back panel includes a plurality of cathode lines which have electron sources on an inner surface of the back panel and extend in parallel to each other, and a plurality of plate-like control electrodes which have electron passing holes which allow electrons emitted from the electron sources to pass therethrough to a front panel side, cross the cathode lines in a non-contact manner and are formed in parallel to each other. The front panel includes anodes and phosphors formed on an inner surface of a front substrate which faces the back substrate.
