  • Patent number: 7401463
Abstract: A heat shield for an internal combustion engine exhaust system for supporting a first heat shield plate and a second heat shield plate on a U-shaped exhaust pipe extending from an exhaust port of an engine, via a support member such as band members, and heat shield plate attachment fixtures. The first heat shield plate covers all around a curved section of the U-shaped exhaust pipe in the vicinity of the exhaust port. The second heat shield plate covers an upper part of a straight section of the U-shaped exhaust pipe and extends rearwardly from the curved section. Further, since the exhaust pipe is formed as one piece, the first heat shield plate may be formed as a simple two-part structure using the band members. With this configuration, an effective heat shielding effect can be exhibited, and cost can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7140462
Abstract: In a vehicle for off-road use, an engine is mounted on a lower portion of a body frame, a carburetor is attached to the engine, and a main air cleaner is attached to the carburetor. The carburetor is provided with an air vent unit attached thereto, for transferring atmospheric pressure to fuel in a float chamber in the carburetor, and a supplemental air cleaner is attached to the tip of the air vent unit. The supplemental air cleaner is disposed above the engine, and above and anterior to the carburetor and the main air cleaner. Since the supplemental air cleaner is substantially covered, from below, by the internal combustion engine, the carburetor, and the main air cleaner, fluids splashed up from a road surface can be blocked by these components, so that the supplemental air cleaner is substantially prevented from being exposed to splashed fluids.

  • Patent number: 7022152
Abstract: An air cleaner device 41 which includes a main air cleaner 56 and a sub air cleaner 67 which is connected to the main air cleaner 56, and the sub air cleaner 67 is arranged parallel to the main air cleaner 56 in the longitudinal direction of main frames 55. In this arrangement, the air cleaner device does not projected sideward from a vehicle body and hence, the interference of the air cleaner device with an occupant and lowering of aesthetic appearance of a vehicle can be prevented. Further, since there is no restriction imposed by the interference of the air cleaner device with an occupant and lowering of aesthetic appearance of the vehicle, a capacity of air cleaner device can be easily ensured.

  • Patent number: 6988573
Abstract: A cooling air path is formed by an air duct provided in front of an engine and below main frames. The air duct has a cooling air port that is almost the same width, in plan view, as the lateral width of the main frames and a discharge port is formed thinner than the cooling air port, further to the rear than the cooling air port and in the vicinity of the engine.
