  • Publication number: 20060286569
Abstract: A method, label, and labeling system for labeling and authenticating an item are presented. At least one of a number of known nucleotide sequences associated with a predetermined amount of information is used as a label to be associated with an item. The label is then read with a reagentless sensor to detect the nucleotide sequence(s). The detected nucleotide sequence(s) is then associated with the appropriate information. The item is authenticated if the sensor detects the expected nucleotide sequence(s). The information in the DNA label may also be passed through a hash function or encrypted to further enhance security. The labels may also incorporate known non-natural nucleic acid analog sequences rather than nucleotide sequences, and a reader that reads known non-natural nucleic acid analog sequences may be employed.

  • Publication number: 20030237005
Abstract: A method and system for protecting digital objects transmitted over a network. A sender creates a notification specifying an object to be delivered to a recipient as well the object's security policy and any authentication information required to access the object. The notification is sent to an object server which creates an identifier associated with the object and sends an e-mail message with the identifier to the recipient. The recipient may access the object by referencing the identifier. The object server authenticates the request for the object and redirects the request to a security server. The security server protects the object in accordance with the security policy designated by the sender and combines the object with mobile code to enforce the security policy at the recipient's computer. The protected object is sent to the recipient.

  • Publication number: 20030232598
Abstract: A method and apparatus for intrusion management in a wireless network uses distance measurement or location finding techniques to permit an administrator to manage security within a wireless network. A distance measurement or location-finding is performed between devices by transmitting and receiving one or more signals and computing an indication of physical location of a device attempting to connect or communicating within a wireless network. The resulting computed distance or location can be used to alert an administrator, provide a map of connected devices and/or automatically disconnect one or more suspect devices. Alternatively or in combination, changes in received signal amplitudes, time delays and/or other signal characteristics can be used to detect changes in the network due to intrusions.
