  • Publication number: 20080236941
Abstract: An exhaust valve and a catalyst can be easily disposed of in a simple manner. The interior of a triangular muffler is partitioned into three expansion chambers. A manifold pipe is connected to the second, middle expansion chamber sideways from a lower portion thereof and is accommodated therein so as to face upward. A catalyst is accommodated in the interior of the manifold pipe. Exhaust gas flowing out from an open end of the manifold pipe expands into the second chamber. A short-circuiting aperture is formed in a second separator and is opened and closed with an exhaust valve installed within the third chamber. The exhaust valve is normally closed by a spring. When the exhaust pressure reaches a predetermined magnitude, the exhaust valve opens automatically, allowing the exhaust gas to flow out into the third chamber through the short-circuiting aperture, thereby controlling the exhaust pressure.

  • Patent number: 7159885
Abstract: A rear cushion unit has an upper end mounted on a swing arm and a lower end coupled to pivot brackets in a position below a pivot shaft. The pivot brackets are independent of each other and are not coupled to each other. With the above construction, a fuel tank, electric parts, or other parts, for example, can be clustered between the left and right brackets. Accordingly, the parts can be disposed near the center of gravity of the vehicle body. Therefore, the maneuvering capability of racing and off-road vehicles incorporating such an arrangement can be increased. The vehicle frame can be simplified in structure and can be manufactured at a reduced cost. When the vehicle is assembled, the distance that the worker needs to move can be reduced, and hence the productivity of the vehicle is increased. The size of the vehicle is reduced because of the clustered arrangement of the parts.

  • Patent number: 7104236
Abstract: An air cleaner housing includes an upper case, a partition wall and a lower case. The inside thereof is partitioned into an upper, filtered side and a lower unfiltered side. Intake funnel pipes, connected to front and rear cylinders, project into the filtered side. An air cleaner element is provided on the front side relative to a hollow plenum above the intake funnel pipes. Inlets in side surfaces of the unfiltered side face toward a V bank of the engine. During use, air enters the bottom of the housing, and is cleaned by the air cleaner element. The clean air flows through the filtered side of the housing, into the intake funnel pipes and toward the cylinders on the lower side. A raised portion is formed on the front upper side of the upper case, and the air cleaner element is disposed inside the raised portion.

  • Patent number: 7066135
Abstract: An intake system for a vehicle engine includes an air cleaner and a plurality of throttle bodies. The air cleaner encases an air cleaner element in an air cleaner housing for filtering air flowing from an unfiltered air chamber to a filtered air chamber of the air cleaner housing. The throttle bodies control the amount of air supplied from the filtered air chamber to a cylinder head. Operating noise of the throttle bodies is minimized by situating the throttle bodies within the air cleaner housing. Operating noise of fuel injectors associated with the throttle bodies is minimized by situating the fuel injectors within the air cleaner housing.
