    Abstract: A method for transmitting digitized payload data and signalling data over a common channel. The signalling data are multiplexed with the payload data using a suitable coding. The signalling bytes are preceded by at least one header bit, and confusion between the payload data and the header byte is prevented by inverting at least one bit of the payload data byte when a payload data byte corresponding to the header byte occurs.
