  • Publication number: 20240159232
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for determining the flow rate and fluid density in an electrical submersible pump (ESP) and controlling the ESP based on the flow rate and density. In one implementation, an ESP system includes an ESP, drive circuitry, a current sensor, a voltage sensor, and a processor. The ESP includes an electric motor. The drive circuitry is electrically coupled to the ESP and is configured to provide an electrical signal to power the ESP. The current sensor is configured to measure a current of the electrical signal. The voltage sensor is configured to measure a voltage of the electrical signal. The processor is configured to calculate speed of a shaft of the electric motor based on a frequency induced by rotation of the motor detected in the current. The processor is also configured to calculate a density of fluid in the ESP based on the speed.

  • Patent number: 11408270
Abstract: A technique facilitates testing and monitoring of a well. An artificial lift system is operated to produce a well fluid, and data is collected as the artificial lift system is operated at different flow rates. The data collected at the different, e.g. varying, flow rates is used in estimating flow performance and to enable continued monitoring of the well. In some applications, the data may be obtained by utilizing a virtual flow metering technique.

  • Patent number: 11236751
Abstract: A method for monitoring operation of an electric submersible pump. The method includes receiving data signals indicating values for a plurality of parameters regarding operation of the electric submersible pumping system; establishing, for at least some of the plurality of parameters, an associated reference signal; and detecting a deviation of one of the parameters from the reference signal associated with that parameter. As a result of the deviation having a rate of change below a predetermined threshold, the method includes updating the value of the reference signal to reflect the deviation. As a result of the deviation having a rate of change above the predetermined threshold, the method includes detecting an event and generating an indication of the event. The indication of the event further depends on a type of the parameter and a direction of the deviation from the reference signal.
