  • Publication number: 20160075981
Abstract: The present invention provides a photobioreactor for the economical and effective mass production of a photosynthetic microorganism, comprising a culture container capable of shape maintenance, which can hold a photosynthetic microorganism to be cultured and a liquid for dispersing the photosynthetic microorganism, wherein the whole or at least a part of the culture container comprises a barrier through which water and nutrients can pass but which limits the diffusion of the photosynthetic microorganism.

  • Patent number: 9181520
Abstract: Provided is a photobioreactor for mass-culturing marine microalgae using a semi-permeable membrane. The photobioreactor installed in a floating type on a water level or soaked at a predetermined depth from the water level to mass-culture isolated marine microalgae includes a culturing bag formed of the semi-permeable membrane through which enables seawater to exist, but prevents the marine microalgae from being penetrated, the culturing bag being configured to provide a three-dimensionally culturing space for accommodating the marine microalgae; and a floating unit connected to the culturing bag to dispose the culturing bag near the sea level, thereby exposing the culturing bag to sunlight. Since the photobioreactor for mass-culturing the marine microalgae using the semi-permeable membrane is provided, the photobioreactor may be manufactured at a low cost and free from the spatial restrictions, thereby enabling the expansion of the photobioreactor in both the horizontal and vertical directions.

  • Publication number: 20130052719
Abstract: The present invention relates to a photobioreactor for mass culture of microalgae. The present invention provides a photobioreactor for mass culture of microalgae, comprising: a culture container comprising external walls which comprise an optical filter zone capable of selective penetration or blocking of a part of wavelength or region from sunlight and/or a heat conversion zone for selectively absorbing a part of wavelength or region from sunlight to convert the same into heat, and a reaction chamber which is three-dimensionally formed so as to accommodate microalgae and is an inner space restricted by the external walls; and a coupling means for connecting a floating means which is connected to the culture container or the culture container to the bottom of the water or a structure on the water, thereby locating the culture container near the surface of the water for the exposure of the culture container to sunlight.

  • Publication number: 20100323436
Abstract: A photobioreactor for a large-scale microalgal culture. The photobioreactor includes a plurality of surface-light-source assemblies using a light emitting diode (LED) element, an organic light emitting diode (OLED) element, or a flexible LED sheet as a light source. The surface-light-source assemblies have the shape of a flat plate or a cylinder, are installed at predetermined intervals in the interior space of a reaction tank having the shape of a cube or a cylinder, and emit light for culturing microalgae in an internally illuminated fashion. Here, the surface-light-source assemblies are installed in such a manner that they are alternately in contact with first and second walls of the reaction tank disposed in parallel to each other in a symmetrical shape, and serve as partitions that portion the interior space of the reaction tank and increase a flow distance of gas.
