  • Patent number: 8575513
Abstract: A method for forming ceramic articles for prototypes that involves the use of metal particles or metal-coated ceramic particles that are formed into ceramic articles using a laser engineered net shaping process. The metal particles or metal coating on the ceramic particles facilitates bonding between the ceramic particles to enable quick manufacture of ceramic articles using the laser engineered net shaping process. The ceramic articles may be ceramic core prototypes and may be used in a variety of different industries.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 6, 2006
Date of Patent: November 5, 2013
    Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.
Inventors: Zafir A. Abdo, Ahmed Kamel

  • Patent number: 7165712
Abstract: A joint having bond line grains that nucleate in the joint region and grow into the adjoined solid substrates. The resulting bond line grains have a size that is greater than a thickness of a molten region. The surfaces of the substrates are cold worked to a desired degree of residual stress prior to the bonding process so that the recrystallization of the substrate surface necessary for the grains to grow into the substrates results in a reduction in the local free energy.

  • Publication number: 20060219758
Abstract: A method of welding ??-strengthened superalloys. The methods improve the weldability of these superalloys by creating areas having lower amounts of ??-forming elements, resulting in stronger welds. In one method, a vacuum heat treatment is used to create ??-depleted zones having reduced amounts of ??-forming elements. A post weld heat treatment may then be used. In another method, a ?-stabilizing element, such as Cr or Ni, is deposited on the area to be welded. Again, a post weld heat treatment may then be used.

  • Publication number: 20050087584
Abstract: A joint (32) having bond line grains (28) that nucleate in the joint region (32) and grow into the adjoined solid substrates (12, 14). The resulting bond line grains have a size that is greater than a thickness (T) of a molten region (15). The surfaces of the substrates are cold worked to a desired degree of residual stress prior to the bonding process so that the recrystallization of the substrate surface necessary for the grains to grow into the substrates results in a reduction in the local free energy.
