Abstract: A rivet, rivet introduction device, and method therefor. The rivet is configured for deployment from a rivet introduction device to provide for connection of tissue. The rivet preferably includes two expansion zones configured to secure tissue therebetween, with the expansion zones being either self-expanding or expandable by use of a mandrel. The rivet introduction device preferably is configured to provide for introduction of a rivet with access only to one side of the tissue to be connected.

Abstract: A system and method for endoscopic treatment of tissue is disclosed. An endoscope has an operating channel. A mounting component has a first threading channel that fits into the operating channel of the endoscope. A ligating barrel fits onto a distal end of the endoscope. An elongate medical instrument is inserted through the first threading channel, the operating channel, and the ligating barrel to treat the tissue.

Abstract: A device for directing a wire guide into a bodily passageway such as a branch of the biliary tree or other difficult to access bodily passageway. The device includes a member, such as an inflatable balloon or a self-expanding basket, for obstructing a first passage. Once the balloon is inflated, or the basket expanded, the wire guide can be reliably directed or deflected into a preferred adjacent passageway in order to cannulate the preferred adjacent passageway. A procedure for cannulating a preferred passageway by obstructing a passageway in the natural flow-path of a wire guide is also provided.
