  • Patent number: 9475749
Abstract: This invention is directed to novel compounds isolated or derived from Alpiniae oxyphyllae fructus, chemically synthesized novel compounds, methods of preparing the novel compounds and uses thereof as neuroprotectants or drugs for treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2014
Date of Patent: October 25, 2016
    Assignee: University of Macau
Inventors: Ming Yuen Lee, Zaijun Zhang, Guohui Li
  • Publication number: 20140271480
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of using indole-ketone or indolidone to treat or prevent a neurodegenerative disease or disorder. In one embodiment, the neurodegenerative disease is Parkinson's disease. In another embodiment, the neurodegenerative disease or disorder is associated with excessive neuronal Nitric Oxide Synthase (nNOS) activity. Examples of indole-ketone include, but are not limited to, SU4312, SU5416, SU11248 (Sunitinib), and indirubin-3-oxime.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 8404688
Abstract: The present invention provides novel nitrones, their preparation and use. The novel compounds have the following formula: I The compounds of the present invention have strong antioxidative activity, and are thrombolytic. These compounds can be used to treat and/or prevent diseases caused by overproduction of free radicals and/or formation of thrombus.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 16, 2009
Date of Patent: March 26, 2013
    Assignee: Jinan University

  • Patent number: 8367720
Abstract: The present invention relates to an andrographolide derivative of the formula (I), wherein R1, R2 and R3 are same or different substituents selected from hydrogen, substituted or unsubstituted organic acid radicals, inorganic acid radicals, alkyl, aryl or heteroaryl, and at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is R-lipoic acid, S-lipoic acid or a mixture thereof, or corresponding dihydrolipoic acids thereof, or N-acetylcysteine radical. The derivative has good antitumor effect, can induce apoptosis of tumor cells, can directly kill Gram-positive bacteria (staphylococcus aureus) and drug resistance bacteria (MRSA5676 and MRSA5677), can inhibit the QS-system of Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), can inhibit and destroy the formation of biofilm of Pseudomonas aeruginosa; and exhibits significant hypoglycemic effect, so that it can be used in manufacture of medicaments for treatment of cancers, inflammation, diabetes, and bacterial and viral infections.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 7, 2008
Date of Patent: February 5, 2013
    Assignee: Panorama Research Inc.
Inventors: Yuqiang Wang, Xiaojian Jiang, Jie Jiang, Zaijun Zhang, Zhaoqi Yang, Pei Yu
