  • Patent number: 4935713
Abstract: A field coil assembly for an electromagnetic clutch includes a coil of current conducting wire, a cap covering an axial end of the coil, a bobbin covering the opposite axial end, a terminal post formed integrally with the bobbin, a terminal inserted within the post, a connector sleeve covering the post and terminal blades, and a coil housing in which the coil is located and retained mechanically. The ends of the coil wire are lead through the holes in the bobbin and supported on bosses molded in the bobbin. The terminals are fitted within apertures in the bobbin, engage the wire ends, cut through the wire insulation, draw a residual portion of the lead wire within the terminal post, and form an electrical contact between the wire and the terminal end. Before the terminal is inserted into the post, the wires and wire supports integral with the post are sheared to a correct length by a knife passing over the top surface of the post.

  • Patent number: 4913688
Abstract: A belt-driven pulley assembly for an accessory drive includes a steel pulley and a drivebelt sheave made of fiber reinforced phenolic material. The inner surface of the sheave is bonded to the outer surface of the pulley after applying plastic adhesive in a precured condition and inserting the pulley within the sheave. The position of the components are maintained during an elevated temperature polymerization cycle. The thickness of the adhesive is defined by the radial depth of rails extending inward toward the mounting surface of the pulley and by the depth of a stop bead formed on an inclined surface of the sheave that faces the inclined surface of the pulley.

  • Patent number: 4589536
Abstract: An automotive accessory clutch driven by a pulley engaged by a rubber belt driven from the engine includes an electrical coil which when energized causes a friction plate to be drawn into engagement with the pulley and to rotate lever arms about pivots which produce tangentially directed forces on brake assemblies that pivot an additional friction surface into engagement with other surfaces of the driven pulley. The connection between the pulley and the accessory driven from the engine is selectively connected and disconnected as the coil is electrically energized and deenergized.
