Patent number: 10409937Abstract: A method for simulating behavior of first and second interrelated components within a system. The method comprises modelling behavior of said first and second components using first and second functional specifications; simulating behavior of said first and second components in predetermined circumstances by instantiating at least one first entity within a hierarchy of interrelated entities; and instantiating at least one further entity in response to the or each instantiated first entity. The or each further entity is selected by a simulation system on the basis of its hierarchical relationship with the at least one first entity.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2016Date of Patent: September 10, 2019Assignee: Mentor Graphics CorporationInventors: Steven Hodgson, Jason Sotiris Polychronopoulos, Christopher Jones, Zakwan Shaar, Muhammed Mutaher Kamal Hashmi, Len Theobald, Wilfred Barry Hughes

Publication number: 20010016808Abstract: A computer-implemented simulation method comprises modelling a target system as a set of processes and activities that communicate with each other by way of messages and signals. Each message is modelled by a data structure containing sender and receiver queues, and pointers to associated composition and decomposition activities. Similarly, each activity is modelled by a data structure containing a caller queue, and a pointer to an activity process. The simulator uses scheduler queues (event and delta queues) to schedule changes to the state of the model. Each item in each scheduler queue has a type value which indicates whether it relates to a process, activity, message or signal, and items are processed in different ways according to their type. A process-type or activity-type item is processed by calling the process or activity to which the item relates. A message-type item is processed by calling both the sender and receiver processes of the message to which the item relates.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2001Publication date: August 23, 2001Inventor: Zakwan Shaar

Patent number: 5157620Abstract: A logic simulator has a time loop with a number of time slots into which events are scheduled. The events are wrapped around the loop, so that event times corresponding to different cycles around the loop may be simultaneously present on the loop. This allows a small loop size to be used, which improves performance. Preferably, the loop size is a prime number. If a complete cycle of the loop is made without finding any non-empty slots a jump is made to the next event time, so as to speed up the processing. In one described embodiment, the loop size is static, while in a second described embodiment the loop size is dynamically varied to minimize the insertion of events with different event times into the same slot.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1989Date of Patent: October 20, 1992Assignee: International Computers LimitedInventor: Zakwan Shaar
