    Abstract: In one embodiment, a fluid transfer component for transferring thermal energy comprises a film comprising a polymer with a thickness less than 5 millimeters, an input side constructed to receive fluid that flows from the input side to an active region of the film, more than 20 fluid channels defined by interior surfaces within the film, each fluid channel separated spatially in at least 1 row in a thickness direction of the film, the more than 20 fluid channels have a channel density across the active region greater than 5 fluid channels per centimeter, wherein the thermal energy is transferred to or from an environment and the fluid in the active region. The film may be an extruded microcapillary film or interior surfaces may comprise a surface modified to produce a surface relief profile. The active region may cool or warm the environment, which may comprise an individual.

The coupling lightguides are folded and stacked behind the reflective spatial light modulator along fold lines oriented at different orientation angles. In some embodiments, the coupling lightguides comprise lateral edges with curved portions. In some embodiments, the coupling lightguides are tapered. In some embodiments, the reflective spatial light modulator comprises an active area in a shape of a polygon with more than four sides or an active area defined by a boundary with a circular, semi-circular, or arcuate portion.

In one embodiment light extracted in the light emitting region is incident on a spatial light modulating layer at an angle of peak luminous intensity less than 30 degrees in a second layer from the surface normal of the spatial light modulating layer, reflects from the reflective spatial light modulator, passes through the film, is scattered by the angularly varying diffusion film, and exits the display.

    Abstract: A device comprises a film with an adhesive layer on a first side of a core layer, a major sheet area of the film bounded by edges of the film with a light extracting region positioned to receive and extract light propagating by total internal reflection within the core layer out of the major sheet area, and a minor sheet between the major sheet area and an array of strips. The strips extend from the minor sheet area of the film, and each strip of the array of strips is folded within a fold region and stacked. The device further comprises a component extending a width of the array of strips where they extend from the minor sheet area, wherein the adhesive layer adheres the component to the film between fold region and the light extracting region. In some embodiments, the adhesive layer is a cladding layer.

In one aspect, pairs of the plurality of interior light directing edges define a plurality of channels that totally internally reflect light propagating therein and are tapered outward toward the light emitting region.
