  • Publication number: 20220186613
Abstract: A system includes a tubing positionable within a wellbore and a first downhole communication device positionable to receive acoustic signals from the tubing and to transmit acoustic signals to the tubing. The system also includes a computing device in communication with the first downhole communication device and including a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable medium that includes instructions that are executable by the processor to perform operations. The operations include receiving a test message including a spectral waveform from a second downhole communication device. The operations further include determining a desired reception frequency for receiving communications from the second downhole communication device using spectral data generated from the spectral waveform. Additionally, the operations include controlling the first downhole communication device to transmit a response message to the second downhole communication device identifying the desired reception frequency.

  • Patent number: 11118445
Abstract: A system for improving communication between surface and downhole equipment, in some embodiments, comprises: a first transceiver in a formation; a second transceiver in the formation; and a third transceiver in the formation, the second transceiver positioned between the first and third transceivers, wherein, upon determining that a communication quality metric pertaining to wireless communication in the formation fails to meet a criterion, the first transceiver transmits data to the second transceiver, wherein, upon determining that said communication quality metric meets the criterion, the first transceiver transmits said data to the third transceiver in lieu of transmitting said data to the second transceiver.

  • Patent number: 9494034
Abstract: The disclosure provides a well system component configured to reduce excessive acoustic noise that would otherwise interfere with acoustic telemetry systems. Specifically, the well system component includes a body configured to be coupled to a pipe string, at least one lobe extending radially from the body, and a pad disposed on the at least one lobe and extending radially from an outer radial extent of the at least one lobe. The well system component can be installed at critical acoustic transmission locations, such as at the location of a hanger, at or near a flex joint in a wellhead installation, and/or at or near a rig floor or deck of an offshore rig.

  • Publication number: 20130278432
Abstract: Systems and methods of communicating wellbore data are disclosed. One method includes transmitting a first uplink signal with a downhole transceiver to a plurality of repeaters communicably coupled to the downhole transceiver, the plurality of repeaters including individual repeaters axially spaced from each other along a length of a pipe string. The first uplink signal is successively transmitted through the individual repeaters, and a second uplink signal is then transmitted with the downhole transceiver to the plurality of repeaters wherein the individual repeaters again successively transmit the second uplink signal. The first and second uplink signals are simultaneously transmitted through the plurality of repeaters, but transmission of the first uplink signal precedes transmission of the second uplink signal. The first and second uplink signals are eventually received with a surface transceiver in communication with the plurality of repeaters.
