Abstract: A colorless ink jet ink composition is provided for printers for printing on both porous and hybrid glossy or semi-glossy media. The ink composition comprises a water soluble polymer or dispersed latex. The ink formulation provides substantially air fast, stain resistant, and light fastness to the printed image. Further, the ink formulation evidences improved overall image quality.

The composition can be an ink-jet ink comprising an aqueous liquid vehicle, polymer-encapsulated pigment solids dispersed in the liquid, a first copolymeric binder, and a second copolymeric binder. The polymer-encapsulated pigment solids can have a pigment core and a copolymeric shell, wherein the copolymeric shell includes multiple polymerized monomers. The first copolymeric binder can include at least one of the multiple polymerized monomers but which is different than the copolymeric shell. The second copolymeric binder can include at least one of the multiple polymerized monomers, but is also different than the copolymeric shell and the first copolymeric binder.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for tagging an ink with a detectable marker and methods for identifying an ink. The tagged ink includes a colorant visible under visible light and a detectable marker capable of fluorescing when subjected to infrared light. A method for identifying an ink includes obtaining a sample of an unidentified ink, subjecting the sample to infrared light such that a detectable marker, if present, fluoresces, and determining whether any fluorescence emitted from the sample corresponds to fluorescence from a tagged ink. A system for identifying an unidentified ink is also disclosed.

More specifically, a system for printing durable ink-jet ink images can comprise offset media; an ink-jet ink; and a calendaring device. The calendaring device can be configured for applying pressure to offset media once the ink-jet ink is printed thereon.
