  • Patent number: 7545834
Abstract: A switch fabric that carries analog differential signals is constructed from 2×2 switches. Each 2×2 switch has two differential inputs that are applied to two demultiplexers. Each 2×2 switch also has two differential outputs, each driven by an equalizing mux. Each demultiplexer has two amplifiers that drive intermediate differential signals to the two equalizing muxes. Each equalizing mux has two equalizers that receive the intermediate differential signals from the two demultiplexers. A select signal enables one equalizer but disables the other to select one of the two intermediate differential inputs. A combining amplifier receives differential outputs from both equalizers and generates a final differential output. R, C values in each equalizer can be adjusted to compensate for loading variations in the intermediate differential signals which can have different physical lengths in a switch fabric.

  • Patent number: 7015766
Abstract: A voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for a phase-locked loop (PLL) has improved bandwidth and performance at lower frequency. A variable current source supplies a current to an internal oscillator-power node. The current varies with the VCO input voltage. The internal oscillator-power node drives the sources of p-channel transistors in inverter stages in the ring oscillator. The variable current causes the internal oscillator-power node's voltage to vary, which varies the output frequency. An active resistor is in parallel with the ring oscillator. The active resistor has a resistor and an n-channel transistor in series between the oscillator-power node and ground. The n-channel transistor has a fixed bias voltage on its gate and is non-linear. The non-linear effective resistance of the n-channel transistor improves overall linearity of the ring oscillator. The parallel effective resistance of the active resistor lowers overall effective resistance of the ring oscillator.

  • Patent number: 6628175
Abstract: A voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) has variable load capacitors on the crystal nodes. The variable load capacitors are p-channel or n-channel transistors with their source and drain nodes connected to a crystal node. The gates are driven by an input voltage that is generated from a full-swing control voltage by a voltage conversion circuit. The input voltage has a half-swing of only half of the power-supply voltage, or VDD/2. The input voltage driving n-channel capacitors swings from VDD to VDD/2, which is just above the source voltage of VDD/2 on the crystal node and ensures that the n-channel capacitors remain on for most of the range. A series of resistors can divide the input voltage into a series of differing voltages that drive gates of multiple n-channel capacitors that have their source/drains connected in parallel to the crystal node. Capacitance increases as an n-channel capacitor channel turns on.
