  • Patent number: 7115317
Abstract: A seal has a non-woven fabric folded along lines transverse to the opposite side of the seal and secured by adhesive to fabric strips. The non-woven fabric forms elongated cells with a plurality of the cells receiving inserts to increase seal stiffness. By securing one of these strips to a stationary component of the sealing surfaces, the opposite strip may expand or collapse relative to a movable sealing surface to accommodate excursions of that surface. Multiple layers of cells may be provided in the seals. The inserts may have various cross-sectional configurations including circular, triangular or rhombic and formed of tubes, solid rods or coiled springs.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 3, 2006
    Assignee: General Electric Company

  • Patent number: 6779799
Abstract: A combined brush/labyrinth tooth seal is provided between a gas shield and the fan tips in the ventilation system of an electrical generator. At least a pair of brush seals straddle a labyrinth tooth providing a close or zero radial clearance with the tips of the fan blades. The brush seals are provided in two double-row bi-directional form. In one embodiment, the brush bristles are slanted toward the fan in a generally axially opposite direction. In a further embodiment, the slanted brush seals engage either the opposite sides of the fan blades or the fan blade tips.

  • Publication number: 20030036865
Abstract: Methods and systems for managing test resources are provided. In one embodiment, the methods and systems can be used by a field engineer located at a remote test site to request a test from a central test lab. The test requester can access a test management web site and display a web page for collecting test background information and parameters. This background information and parameters can be transmitted via a communications link to a test coordinator at the central test lab. The test coordinator can then determine the necessary test resources and prepare a cost estimate for the requested test. The test may require various resources, such as test instrumentation, data recording devices, and test personnel support. The test cost estimate and other pertinent information can then be sent back to the test requester for review and acceptance. If accepted, the test requester can then submit an order for the test.

  • Patent number: 6390476
Abstract: A brush seal includes a brush seal body formed of heat-resistant magnetic silicone rubber material in the form of a channel. Bristles are disposed in the channel of the brush seal body at a cant angle and project from the edges of the body terminating in bristle tips. The brush seal is formed linearly and, in use, flexed to form an annular seal between adjacent annular sealing components, with the seal carried by one component and the bristle tips engaging the opposite component. The magnetic material of the seal body enables temporary securement of the seal to one of the components, while the seal is adjusted and finally secured in place.
