    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a bridgeless digital control power factor correction (PFC) circuit, with a symmetrical and balanced topology, for use in a device to eliminate the use of standby power when a plug is sitting idle in a socket. In embodiments, the bridgeless power factor correction circuit includes: a boost inductor, where the bridgeless power factor correction circuit has a symmetrical topology, and the boost inductor comprises an axis of the bridgeless power factor correction circuit; a first metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and a second MOSFET; and four diodes, wherein the four diodes comprise two slow diodes and two fast diodes. Embodiments of the present invention also relate to a power factor correction circuit, and methods of manufacturing the bridgeless power factor correction circuit and the power factor correction circuit.

    Abstract: A digital AC/DC power converter comprises an active PFC module, a single switch module having a single switch, a power output module having a transformer, a digital control module having a microcontroller, and a rectifying and filtering module having a full-bridge rectifier, an EMI filter, and a capacitor that is less than 1 ?F. The single switch is electrically connected to the active PFC module, and a primary winding of the transformer is electrically connected to the active PFC module. The microcontroller provides a PWM signal to control the switching state of the single switch, so that the active PFC module transforms AC frequency from less than 300 Hz into over 30,000 Hz and outputs a rectified AC voltage waveform. The EMI filter blocks high electromagnetic frequencies and the capacitor smooths a variation in the rectified voltage waveform and output the smoothed rectified voltage waveform to the active PFC module.

    Abstract: An optical device is described that may be used as a microscope system for real-time, three-dimensional optical imaging. The device includes a miniature, fiber optic, intra-vital probe microscope that uses a dual-axes confocal architecture to allow for vertical scanning perpendicular to a surface of the sample (e.g., a tissue surface). The optical device can use off-axis illumination and collection of light to achieve sub-cellular resolution with deep tissue penetration. The optical device may be used as part of an integrated molecular imaging strategy using fluorescence-labeled peptides to detect cell surface targets that are up-regulated by the epithelium and/or endothelium of colon and breast tumors in small animal models of cancer.
