  • Publication number: 20080177833
Abstract: A system and computer program product for establishing multi-party VoIP conference audio calls in a distributed, peer-to-peer network where any number of nodes are able to arbitrarily and asynchronously start or stop producing audio output to be mixed into a single composite audio stream that is distributed to all nodes. A single distribution tree is used that has optimal communications characteristics to distribute the composite audio signal to all nodes. An audio mixing tree is established and maintained by adaptively and dynamically adding and merging intermediate mixing nodes operating between user nodes and the root of the single distribution tree. The intermediate mixing nodes and the root of the single distribution tree are all hosted, in an exemplary embodiment, on user nodes that are endpoints of the distribution tree.

  • Publication number: 20070299862
Abstract: Improved information analysis techniques are disclosed. For example, a computer-implemented method of automatically assisting an analyst in a current information analysis task includes the following steps. An analytic context is modeled in a user-system cooperative manner, wherein the analytic context is a structure representative of user analytic actions and relationships associated therewith. At least a portion of the user-system cooperatively-modeled analytic context structure is utilized to adaptively gather information relevant to a current information analysis task.

  • Publication number: 20070088735
Abstract: Improved visual context management techniques are disclosed. By way of example, a technique for updating an existing visual display to incorporate new information comprises obtaining new information requested by a subsequent user query, and dynamically deriving one or more visual transformations for updating at least a portion of the existing display to incorporate the new information, wherein the transformation derivation is modeled as an optimization operation which attempts to balance visual context management constraints and to achieve a desired presentation of intended information.

  • Patent number: 7184602
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating low bandwidth video image transmission in video conferencing systems. A target is acquired (video image of a person's head) and processed to identify one or more sub-regions (e.g., background, eyes, mouth and head). The invention incorporates a fast feature matching methodology to match a current sub-region with previously stored sub-regions. If a match is found, an instruction is sent to the receiving computer to generate the next frame of video data from the previously stored blocks utilizing a texture synthesis technique. The invention is applicable for video conferencing in low bandwidth environments.

  • Publication number: 20060167835
Abstract: Improved media allocation techniques for use in accordance with information-seeking systems are provided. For example, in one aspect of the invention, a technique for allocating media to present data content for a response to a query comprises the following steps/operations. Data content suitable for generating a response to the query is determined. One or more media for presenting at least a portion of the response (e.g., at least a portion of the intended data content) are dynamically allocated. Media allocation is modeled as an optimization operation which attempts to balance context-based allocation constraints. The optimization operation may also attempt to achieve the desired presentation of intended data content.
