The method of performing the fingerprint recognition comprises: receiving a trigger instruction to call a fingerprint-recognition element of an electronic device; and in response to receiving the trigger instruction, activating one or more pixel units of a display screen of the electronic device to provide light at a fingerprint detection area of the display screen; detecting a fingerprint of a user of the electronic device at the fingerprint-detection area of the display screen; and determining whether or not the user is an authorized user of the electronic device from the fingerprint of the user as detected.
