  • Patent number: 11030994
Abstract: A method and data processing device for detecting a communication between a first and second entity. The method includes identifying whether a previous communication between the first and second entity has been detected. In response to identifying that the previous communication between the first and second entity has been detected, the method determines an elapsed time since detection of the previous communication. The method predicts a topic of the communication, in part based on the determined elapsed time. The topic corresponds to a specific domain from among a plurality of available domains for automatic speech recognition (ASR) processing. The method triggers selection and activation of a first domain specific (DS) ASR engine from among a plurality of available DS ASR engines to utilize a smaller resource footprint than a general ASR engine and facilitate recognition of specific vocabulary and context, in part, based on the elapsed time since the previous communication.

  • Patent number: 11031010
Abstract: A method includes receiving a voice input via a microphone of an electronic device, and determining whether the voice input contains speech from an authorized user of the electronic device or speech from an unauthorized user. The method includes in response to determining that the voice input contains speech from the authorized user: determining whether the speech contains private speech or public speech; in response to determining that the speech contains private speech, processing the voice input through a local automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine within the electronic device, the local ASR engine converting the voice input from audio format to text format and outputting a text transcription of the private speech; and in response to determining that the speech does not contain private speech, forwarding the voice input through a communication interface associated with a network-connected external device for processing the voice input at the network-connected external device.

  • Publication number: 20210127352
Abstract: An incoming communication can be received. A decision can be made that a short-range wireless communication transceiver is coupled to a plurality of short-range wireless communication audio output devices. The short-range wireless communication audio output devices can include a first short-range wireless communication audio output device and a second short-range wireless communication audio output device. A determination can be made as to which of the first short-range wireless communication audio output device, the second short-range wireless communication audio output device, or both short-range wireless communication audio output devices a notification of the incoming communication should be sent to based on the short-range wireless communication transceiver being coupled to the plurality of short-range wireless communication audio output devices. The notification can be sent to the determined short-range wireless communication audio output device or devices.

  • Patent number: 10983690
Abstract: An electronic device includes a touch-sensitive display, one or more processors, and one or more motion sensors. The touch-sensitive display detects touch input at a surface of the touch-sensitive display, with the touch input identifying a user input command requesting performance of a control operation. The one or more motion sensors determine whether the electronic device moves in three-dimensional space while the touch input is occurring. The one or more processors preclude execution of the control operation in response to the touch input where the electronic device moved in the three-dimensional space while the touch input was occurring, thereby preventing control operations in response to inadvertent touching when the electronic device is being picked up or moved.

  • Publication number: 20210058549
Abstract: An electronic device, method, and computer program product provide detecting entry of an image capturing device of the electronic device into an image capture mode. In response to detecting entry, a controller of the electronic device detects, via at least one of: (i) the image capturing device; and (ii) the microphone, a first external input that alerts a subject that an image of the subject is about to be captured by the image capturing device. In response to detecting the first external input, the controller enables the electronic device to monitor for detection by one of: (i) the image capturing device; and (ii) the microphone of a second external input. The second external input is associated with the subject being ready to have an image of the subject captured. In response to detecting the second external input, the controller activates recording of image data via the image capturing device.

  • Patent number: 10923123
Abstract: A system receives a first voice input from a first user, such as a baby or a person who has had a stroke. Although the first user intends to communicate a particular meaning, the first voice input is not in a language that is known to the system and thus the system does not know the particular meaning that the first user intended. After receiving the first voice input, a second voice input is received from a second user. This second voice input is in a language that is known to the system. The system determines a meaning of the second voice input, associates this meaning with the first voice input, and uses this association to train a machine learning system. This machine learning system is used to attempt to understand the meaning of subsequent voice inputs received from the first user.

  • Publication number: 20210034384
Abstract: An electronic device includes a user interface, a wireless communication device, and one or more processors. The wireless communication device establishes a paired communication connection with at least one companion electronic device. The wireless communication device receives one or more electronic communications from the at least one companion electronic device. The one or more processors determine, from the one or more electronic communications, whether an environment of the electronic device is a public environment or a private environment. Where the environment is the private environment, the one or more processors cause the user interface of the electronic device to enter a normal mode of operation. Where the environment is the public environment, the one or more processors cause the user interface of the electronic device to enter a privacy mode of operation.

  • Publication number: 20200365148
Abstract: A method includes detecting a keyword within an audio stream. The keyword is one of multiple keywords in a database, in which each of the multiple keywords relates to at least one of multiple domains in the database. The database stores a first confidence weight for each of the multiple keywords that are related to a first domain among the multiple domains. Each first confidence weight indicates a probability that a corresponding keyword relates to the first domain. The method includes determining whether a first confidence weight of the keyword is at least equal to an activation threshold value associated with the first domain. The method includes, in response to the first confidence weight of the keyword meeting the activation threshold value, activating a DS-ASR engine corresponding with the first domain to perform speech-to-text conversion on the audio stream.

  • Patent number: 10839158
Abstract: A method includes detecting, by sensors, a current context associated with an electronic device. The method includes dynamically loading a neural network and selected features into a phrase-spotting audio front-end (AFE) processor. The neural network is configured, based on the current context, with at least one domain having an associated set(s) of trigger words. The method includes detecting, audio content that matches a trigger word from among the sets of trigger words associated with the at least one selected domain. The method includes in response to detecting audio content that matches the trigger word, outputting a wake-up signal to an application processor (AP). The AFE processor utilizes less computational resources than the AP. The method includes, in response to receiving the wake-up signal, the AP waking up and performing additional computation based on the matching trigger word. The method includes outputting results of the additional computation to an output device.

  • Patent number: 10839802
Abstract: A method and data processing device for receiving, at a data processor, data that includes at least one personalized phrase. The method includes extracting a personalized phrase from received data. The method includes tracking, via an assigned phrase counter, each occurrence of the personalized phrase in the received data and subsequently received data. The method includes periodically comparing a value of the assigned phrase counter to pre-established count thresholds to determine when a count of the personalized phrase reaches at least one of the pre-established count thresholds. The method includes storing the personalized phrase to a phrase database and linking the personalized phrase to the one or more general phrases in the phrase database. The method includes selectively triggering a contextual response to the data and executing, by the data processor, the corresponding operation. The method includes outputting the contextual response to an output device.

  • Publication number: 20200342133
Abstract: Content visibility on a computing device is controlled based at least in part on the current location of the computing device. When the current location is a safe location for making user-selectable content visible on a display screen of the computing device and the computing device is unlocked, the computing device operates in a full content visibility mode. In the full content visibility mode all user-selectable content on the computing device is accessible to a user of the computing device. When the current location is not a safe location for making user-selectable content visible on the display screen, the computing device operates in a reduced content visibility mode. In the reduced content visibility mode content visibility on the display screen is reduced, such as by limiting which applications (e.g., application icons or widgets) are displayed or otherwise accessible to the user.
