  • Publication number: 20060067876
Abstract: This invention discloses methods for fabricating calcium zincate, an active material for negative electrodes of alkaline storage batteries. These fabrication methods are nucleation methods that use calcium zincate with small granule diameter as seeds to fabricate the calcium zincate. The methods include the following steps: (a) adding calcium zincate as seeds to an alkaline solution; (b) mixing a calcium salt solution and a zinc salt solution to form a solution mixture, and, (c) adding the solution mixture to the alkaline solution at a predetermined temperature while stirring said alkaline solution with said solution mixture to obtain the calcium zincate. The fabricated calcium zincate granules have a small granule diameter and are suitable for use in batteries with high discharge current or power output. These fabrication methods have a short reaction time and consume less energy and raw materials.

  • Publication number: 20060024570
Abstract: The present invention discloses enhanced separators for storage batteries with zinc negative electrodes. These enhanced separators include a separator layer and one or more resistive layers on said separator layer. The dimensions of the one or more resistive layers are less than or equal to that of the separator layer. Portions of the separator layer can also be treated with a PTFE suspension to increase the resistance at those portions. For storage batteries where the resistance along two edges of the separator layer has to be larger then the center, the enhanced separator include said resistive layers where each layer includes two independent parts positioned along the two edges of the separator layer. The edge portions of the separator layer can also be treated with a PTFE suspension. Using these enhanced separators in storage batteries with zinc negative electrodes can increase the capacity and prolong the life of the batteries.

  • Publication number: 20050244714
Abstract: The present invention discloses negative electrodes for alkaline storage batteries and their methods of fabrication. The material for said negative electrode comprises of an additive that has at least one calcium compound selected from the following: tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, and tricalcium aluminate. The concentration of said additive is between 1 wt % and 15 wt % of the material of said negative electrode. To fabricate said negative electrode, said additive is mixed with an active material for the negative electrode to form a paste, which is then dried. This method of fabrication is simple, convenient and low in cost. An alkaline battery using said material for its negative electrode has long cycle life and a large capacity.

  • Publication number: 20050014804
Abstract: This invention relates to novel tetrazole and oxadiazalone ?-amino acids derivatives of the formula wherein G is wherein R1 through R4 are defined as in the specification, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use for the treatment of various central nervous system and other disorders. The cyclopropyl ?-amino acids derivatives of this invention exhibit activity as alpha2delta ligands (?2? ligands). Such compounds have affinity for the ?2? subunit of a calcium channel.
