    Abstract: A method is provided for assigning user-centric importance ranks to database entries within the context of social networking. A database entry is assigned an importance rank with respect to a user based on the experiences of the user's social relations reachable in social graphs with the database entry or its related database entries. The assigned rank is dependent on the closeness of the user's social relations with the user and their authorities on the database entry. The closeness of relation between users is determined using information from social networking services. Importance ranks calculated from other methods may serve as initial estimates for the user-centric importance ranks. Moreover, a user may acquire more information about a database entry by either communicating with users having experiences with the entry or obtaining information from social networking services. The method improves search relevance and provides more personalized search results.

    Abstract: A system and method is provided for online buying and selling goods and services within the context of social networking. The social relation closeness between a buyer and a seller is determined using information from social networking services and a business transaction record database. Trust and credibility between buyers and sellers may be derived from the social relation closeness between them. Therefore, the initial transaction barriers may be lowered. The business relation closeness between a buyer and a seller may be determined and may be used to search for potential buyers and sellers. Furthermore, buyers and sellers may acquire more information from their social and business relations so as to aid the sales decisions and detect frauds. To provide desired privacy and credibility, a seller may use groups and requirement on the closeness of social and business relation with the seller to control access to the seller's item information.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for calculating proximities between nodes in multiple social graphs. Some nodes in one social graph may be mapped to nodes in other social graphs. To describe the closeness of relation between nodes, weighting factors are assigned to the relations in a social graph. Social graphs representing same type of relations may be merged into one graph to model the relations between nodes more accurately and completely. The weighting factors for relations in the merged social graph may be calculated from the weighting factors for relations in the original graphs. Relations in social graphs may be either attenuatable or non-attenuatable. The proximities between nodes may be calculated from the weighting factors for relations on the paths connecting them. The calculated proximities may be used to improve the performance of search in multiple social graphs.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for calculating distances between users in a social graph. The relations in the social graph are assigned weighting factors. The distances between two users are calculated from the weighted relations on the paths connecting the two users. In addition, the propagation of relations across neighboring users may be attenuated according to a propagation coefficient. Using the calculated distances, the social search may be performed in the order of non-decreasing distances from the source users. Moreover, clusters may be created from a social graph based on the calculated distances. The search in a dense social graph may be converted to a search in the generated clusters. Therefore the performance of social search across neighbors is improved.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for cryptographic communications. It may significantly improve operation efficiency of existing symbol level encryption algorithms by permutating at symbol sequence level with significantly less computational requirements. The system includes a communications channel, at least one terminal with encoding device and at least one terminal with decoding device. A message comprising ordered symbols can be partitioned into ordered symbol sequences. Then the order of symbol sequences is permutated by the encoding device. The partition and permutation can be repeated recursively on the resultant symbol sequences to obtain the ciphertext. All the partition and permutating information are characterized by a secret key, used for decoding on the receiving terminal. It is required that the final resultant symbol sequences in the ciphertext should not disclose information confidentiality. The present invention can be also applied to secure distributed data storage.
