  • Publication number: 20090325265
Abstract: Lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase [“LPAAT”] participates in the second step of oil biosynthesis and is expected to play a key role in altering the quantity of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids [“LC-PUFAs”] produced in oils of oleaginous organisms. • Publication number: 20090291479
Abstract: Acyl-CoA binding protein [“ACBP”] binds thiol esters of long fatty acids and coenzyme A in a one-to-one binding mode with high specificity and affinity. This protein is expected to play an important role in altering lipid production in oleaginous microbial organisms. Knock-out of the protein in the oleaginous yeast, Yarrowia lipolytica, results in a decrease in the total lipid content, while overexpression results in an increase in the total lipid content of the recombinant Yarrowia cells.

  • Patent number: 7572612
Abstract: A thermostable TAL enzyme was identified from the fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium, which has high activity at temperatures of 40° C. to about 60° C. The enzyme was produced in engineered cells and used for production of para-hydroxycinnamic acid (pHCA) from tyrosine. When the pHCA production reaction was run at high temperature, the enzyme was more active and pHCA was produced more rapidly, making the reaction more efficient.

  • Publication number: 20090117253
Abstract: Methods of increasing the amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the total lipid fraction and in the oil fraction of PUFA-producing, oleaginous eukaryotes, accomplished by modifying the activity of peroxisome biogenesis factor (Pex) proteins. Disruptions of a chromosomal Pex3 gene, Pex10p gene or Pex16p gene in a PUFA-producing, oleaginous eukaryotic strain resulted in an increased amount of PUFAs, as a percent of total fatty acids and as a percent of dry cell weight, in the total lipid fraction and in the oil fraction of the strain, as compared to the parental strain whose native Pex protein was not disrupted.
