    Abstract: A display device includes a detachable housing, a main body, and an interface unit. The interface unit electrically connects the detachable housing with the main body. The detachable housing includes an OSD unit for storing a plurality of OSD data; a command input unit for generating and sending signals in response to operations of a user; a processing unit for identifying operations of the user, and, if required by the operations, performing predetermined function to obtain OSD data, generating a corresponding control signal, and transmitting the OSD data and the control signal to the main body through the interface unit. The main body displays an OSD menu corresponding to the OSD data and adjusts the parameters of the display device, corresponding to the control signals.

The number of pins is dependent on the particular command input unit selected by a user. The control unit identifies the control signals and performs the corresponding functions through the identifiers. The functions include turning on the display device, turning off the display device, obtaining corresponding OSD data, displaying an OSD menu, and adjusting parameters of the display device.

    Abstract: A display device testing system includes a video signal outputting apparatus (10), a remote controller (20), a back board (30) and a display device (40). The video outputting apparatus outputs video signals which contain one or more testing samples provided for testing the display device to the display device. The remote controller generates control signals to control the display device to display the testing samples. The back board includes an interface. The interface receives the control signals from the controller, combines the control signals with the video signals into mixed signals, and transmits the mixed signals to the display device to obtain a test result. The test result is sent back to the remote controller via the back board for evaluating the performances of the display device. A related method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium having a substrate and a SiO2-containing magnetic layer comprising grains is disclosed. The magnetic layer has substantial SiO2 between the grains. This condition is achieved by sputter depositing the magnetic layer in a chamber containing a gas under vacuum. The gas contains substantially no oxygen. Such a gas is one into which no oxygen is intentionally introduced to create an oxygen-containing gas mixture but may contain a trace amount of oxygen molecules in an amount that are present in air under a similar vacuum as that of the gas in the chamber.

Embodiments include sputtering depositing an Al or Al alloy layer on the substrate and anodizing the sputtered layer to form a plurality of substantially uniform hexagonal cells comprising aluminum oxide. The hexagonal pattern is replicated in a subsequently deposited and epitaxially grown magnetic layer such that the magnetic grains are separated, thereby reducing magnetostatic interactions therebetween.

    Abstract: Apparatus for holding and aligning a sample to be examined by a scanning electron microscope or the like includes an alignment device having base structure installable in the scanning electron microscope in a predetermined orientation. The alignment device also includes a holder for the sample which is mounted to the base structure for rotative movement about a rotation axis relative to the base structure. An adjuster is mounted on the base structure and can be manipulated to rotate the sample holder about the rotation axis. This alignment device is installed in a base holder and a video camera captures an image of the sample held by the sample holder. The image is displayed on a video monitor and the adjuster is then manipulated to rotatively align the sample to a desired orientation. The alignment device, including the sample, may then be removed from the base holder and installed in the scanning electron microscope with the sample being properly aligned.
