  • Publication number: 20120103880
Abstract: A fuel filter assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a molded plastic housing defining an interior filter chamber. A filter element is operatively supported in the filter chamber. Fuel is passed through the filter chamber to remove impurities. At least one sensor is operatively supported by the housing for sensing at least one condition of the fuel passing through the fuel filter. The sensor includes an element that is exposed to the fuel. A common connector terminal is adapted to provide electrical communication with a source of power. Leads extend between the element and the common connector terminal. The leads are encased in plastic substantially between the element and the common connector terminal such that the leads are sealed from contact with the fuel. The present invention is also directed toward a method of manufacturing a fuel filter for an internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20030160472
Abstract: A invention provides an integrated splash shield and air intake tube are provided. A splash shield defining a wheel well is at least partially arranged about a wheel. The splash shield has first and second portions secured to one another defining an air passageway with the air passageway in fluid communication with the engine. A wheel well portion has a second surface opposite a first surface. An air intake portion is supported on the wheel well portion and preferably secured thereto by a weld bead. The air intake portion and the first surface of the wheel well portion together define an air passageway having an inlet for receiving ambient air and an outlet for connection to an engine throttle of the engine. Other air passages may be defined in a similar manner in the integrated splash shield and air intake tube described above. For example, a passive noise cancellation system such as a Herschel-Quincke tube arrangement may be formed by the wheel well and air intake portions.

  • Publication number: 20030111039
Abstract: Laser welding is used to attach a polyolefin air induction component to an elastomeric hose member. One of the hose or induction component includes a portion that is made from a transparent material. In one example, the hose includes a hose end portion that is formed from a transparent material. The transparent material is then positioned in an overlapping relationship to a tube received within an opening in the induction component, which acts as an absorbing component. Contour through transmission welding is used to generate a laser beam that passes through the transparent material, heats the absorbing component, which in turn heats the transparent material and forms a laser weld.
