  • Publication number: 20090285499
Abstract: A method of coding video content. The method can include, identifying a first plurality of image blocks within a picture based on at least a first image characteristic that is common to each of the first plurality of image blocks. A first image block group can be dynamically defined. At least one of the image blocks can be selected as a predictor block to predict other image blocks within the first image block group. In another arrangement, at least a first image block and a second image block can be identified within a picture. The second image block can be predicted from the first image block. A displacement vector can be defined to associate the second image block with the first image block. A value representing the displacement vector can be included within a header of the second image block.

  • Publication number: 20080226173
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and electronic device for searching for repetitive video content are disclosed. A memory may store a set of video data. A processor may match a premier query window to a trellis match video window of the set of video data. The processor may compare a successive query window to a successive trellis match video window. • Publication number: 20080123741
Abstract: A system (100) and method (200) for efficient video adaptation of an input video (102) is provided. The method can include segmenting (210) the input video into a plurality of video shots (142) using a video trace (111) to exploit a temporal structure of the input video, selecting (220) a subset of frames (144) for the video shots that minimizes a distortion of adapted video (152) using the video trace, and selecting transcoding parameters (122) for the subset of frames to produce an optimal video quality of the adapted video under constraints of frame rate, bit rate, and viewing time constraint. The video trace is a compact representation for temporal and spatial distortions for frames in the input video. A spatio-temporal rate-distortion model (320) provides selection of the transcoding parameters during adaptation.

  • Publication number: 20070140550
Abstract: An object detection algorithm that generates a two-layer Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) during a training session, and subsequent to the training session, uses the two-layer GMM to perform face detection. No labeling of local features is needed. The only input that is provided by a user is the setting of a few global parameters for the image being captured during the training session, such as, for example, the person's facial pose.

  • Publication number: 20070036227
Abstract: A video encoding system (200) provides content adaptive rate control that includes a visual analyzer (208) utilizing at least one visual analysis tool for processing a video frame to provide visual information describing the video frame. An encoder (204) generates encoding status information relating to the video frame being processed. A rate controller (206) is responsive to the encoding status information generated by the encoder (204) and the visual information generated by the visual analyzer (208) to generate a rate control adjustment signal. The encoder (204) is responsive to the rate control adjustment signal for encoding the video frame.

  • Patent number: 7065521
Abstract: A search system (200) for a database (224) including records having a multiple disparate types of media is provided. The search system supports queries, that include different types of search criteria, including content based retrieval search criteria. A fuzzy logic method (400) is provided for effectively combining the results of different types of search criteria. The fuzzy logic method also allows confidence levels entered by the user for search criteria to be considered in combining results. Retrieval relevance values for documents for at least some search criteria are used in the fuzzy logic method. For content based image retrieval searches, the retrieval relevance values are computed by mapping a distance between quantitative characterizations of a search basis image, and other images into a finite range.

  • Patent number: 6963378
Abstract: At least one visual significance metric is determined (12) for at least some frames belonging to an original series of frames (11). Key frames are identified (13) as a function, at least in part, of the visual significance metric. Cumulative visual significance values are then determined (14) for at least some of the frames that intervene between each pair of key frames. These cumulative visual significance values are then used to identify (15) frames of additional content interest. Various frames are then selected (16) for use in a visual summary. In one embodiment, all of the key frames and frames of additional content interest are selected for inclusion in the visual summary.

  • Publication number: 20050125821
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining if a first video segment matches a second video segment is provided herein. Each video segment to be compared has an associated metric (HR), which is a function over time as the conditional entropy between frame fk and previous frame fk?1. A comparison of each video segment's HR vectors determines if the video segments match.

  • Patent number: 6697651
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system having a network (1) and a plurality of user terminals (2,3,4) that are coupled to the network via a communication channel using wireless radio frequency transmission and having a downlink channel for transmitting messages in the direction from the network to the user terminals. The downlink channel comprises a paging channel for transmission of paging messages in paging frames for initiating communication with a user terminal allocated to a paging group of a plurality of user terminals. A paging indicator channel transmitter of a paging indicator belonging to the paging group when there is a paging message for the user terminal belonging to the paging group. The user terminal processes a next paging frame transmitted on the paging channel to determine whether there is a paging message intended for the user terminal when the paging indicator has been transmitted on the paging indicator channel.

  • Patent number: 6490472
Abstract: Time course MRI data is acquired from the hippocampal region of the brain and processed to produce an index which is a measure of the functional connectivity between locations therein. The MRI data is acquired while the brain is substantially at rest and the spontaneous low frequency component of the time course data at each location in the hippocampus is extracted and compared in a cross-correlation process.
