  • Publication number: 20120245648
Abstract: An automatic external defibrillator including: a sensor for detecting when a rescuer is delivering a CPR chest compression to the patient; electrodes for application to the thorax of the patient for delivering a defibrillation shock to the patient and for detecting an ECG signal; defibrillation circuitry for delivering a defibrillation shock to the electrodes; and a processor and associated memory for executing software that controls operation of the defibrillator. The software provides: ECG analysis for analyzing the ECG signal to determine if the cardiac rhythm is shockable; CPR detection for analyzing the output of the sensor to determine when a CPR chest compression has been delivered, and integration of the ECG analysis and CPR detection so that the determination of whether the cardiac rhythm is shockable is based only on time periods of the ECG signal during which there has not been a CPR chest compression delivered.

  • Publication number: 20110130799
Abstract: A medical device includes a device housing and a door mounted to the device housing. The device also includes a first magnet mounted to the door, wherein magnetic force applied to the door exerts a moment on the door, and a second magnet mounted in the housing and positioned to hold the door shut by magnetic interaction with the first magnet. In addition, the device includes a user-movable mode-changing mechanism attached to a third magnet, and arranged to hold the third magnet out of proximity with the first and second magnets when the device is in a first mode, and to move the third magnet into proximity with the first and second magnets when the device is in a second mode so as to expel the first magnet away from the housing and open the door to expose items positioned behind the door.

  • Publication number: 20110130798
Abstract: A medical device includes a display area that has a thin panel having a substantially flat front surface portion, a translucent layer on a back surface of the thin panel, a layer of text or graphics on a back surface of the translucent layer, and arranged so that the text or graphics is not visible to a user on the front side when light is not provided from inside the device housing, a switch to allow a user to select a first mode or a second mode for the device, and circuitry arranged to energize one or more light sources to provide light from behind the thin panel when the device is in the first mode, and to thereby make visible the text or graphics when the device is in the first mode.

  • Patent number: 6574491
Abstract: A system for detecting a physiological parameter from a physiological signal, includes a source of the physiological signal. Circuitry, coupled to the signal source, detects spectral peaks in the physiological signal. Calculating circuitry, coupled to the spectral peak detecting circuitry, calculates a parameter value corresponding to each detected spectral peak. Weighting circuitry, coupled to the calculating circuitry and the spectral peak detecting circuit, assigns a weight to each peak according to a feature of a signal and the parameter value corresponding to that peak. Circuitry, coupled to the weighting circuitry, selects the peak according to a predetermined criterion. Output circuitry, coupled to the selecting circuitry and the calculating circuitry, then generates the parameter value corresponding to the selected peak.

  • Patent number: 5819007
Abstract: A method and apparatus for classifying an input as belonging to one of a plurality of predefined classes, comprises: (a) developing a plurality of feature values and forming a feature vector from the feature values which is representative of the input, (b) applying the feature vector to a knowledge-base comprising predictivity curves for each class of said plurality of classes, and developing a plurality of predictivity values for each feature, each predictivity value being indicative of a likelihood of the input belonging to a respective one of each of said classes based on the feature value; (c) combining the predictivity values developed for each of the features for each class to generate a total predictivity value for each class; and (d) generating a determination of class based upon the total predictivity values generated by the prior step.

  • Patent number: 5685318
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring the respirations of a patient includes a device for generating a respiration signal having amplitude modulations representative of patient respirations, as well as respiration artifacts, and a processor coupled to the respiration signal generating device and responsive to the respiration signal for 1) detecting inflection points in the respiration signal; 2) determining if either one of a portion of the respiration signal which precedes or follows each detected inflection point has a slope which exceeds a predetermined slope threshold level which is indicative of a respiration artifact; and 3) developing breath indication information based upon the slope threshold determination.
