  • Publication number: 20210178031
Abstract: A system for distributing fluid during a surgical procedure is disclosed, comprising a plurality of valves at least partially enclosed in a surgical cassette, at least one vacuum source fluidly connected to at least one of the plurality of valves, and at least one fluid source fluidly connected to at least one of the plurality of valves, wherein each valve is responsive to at least one received signal indicative of at least one parameter associated with one of fluid pressure and fluid volume.

  • Publication number: 20070078378
Abstract: A tip nozzle for a surgical irrigating handpiece. The nozzle produces a fan-like dispersion pattern when pressurized fluid is ejected out of the nozzle. The nozzle is particularly useful during the irrigation/aspiration (“I/A”) portion of a cataract surgical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20060217741
Abstract: An irrigating tip have a flattened or oval shape more easily fits into the anterior chamber angle, thereby allowing more effective delivery of the pulses of balanced salt solution to the trabecular meshwork.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20060217750
Abstract: A surgical knife containing a stain or dye coating. The stain or dye will dissolve or melt upon entry into the incision, thereby neatly marking the location of the incision.

  • Publication number: 20060217740
Abstract: A quick release tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. The tip contains a lumen attached to a hub. The hub has a circumferential flange around its base. The handpiece contains a recess into which the hub fits. The bottom of the recess contains a plurality of movable snaps or catches that as sized to capture the flange on the tip hub. A slidable lever is connected to the snaps so that movement of the level causes the snaps to spread apart, thereby releasing the flange and allowing the tip to be easily removed from the handpiece.

  • Publication number: 20060058823
Abstract: A surgical handpiece having at least two lumens or tubes mounted to a body. At least one tube is used for aspiration and at least one other tube is used to inject heated surgical fluid for performing a surgical procedure, such as an ophthalmic or otic surgical procedure. A portion of the second tube may form a pumping chamber. The pumping chamber works by boiling a small volume of the surgical fluid. As the fluid boils, it expands rapidly, thereby propelling the liquid downstream of the pumping chamber out of the second tube. The pumping chamber may use a heating filament or a laser to heat the surgical fluid within the boiling chamber, thereby creating a pressure wave that travels down the second tube.

  • Publication number: 20050277897
Abstract: A handpiece tip having a seal, a raised ridge or snap lock and a stop. Such a construction allows the infusion sleeve to be pushed onto the handpiece tip without threading. The raised ridge locks the infusion sleeve into place. The seal prevents leakage from the connection. The stop prevents the infusion sleeve from being pushed too far onto the handpiece tip. The handpiece tip can be used with conventional internally threaded infusion sleeves.

  • Publication number: 20050277898
Abstract: A tip for a surgical handpiece having two coaxial tubes or channels mounted within a body. The tip has one or more features that shape the fluid discharge so as to optimize the performance of the handpiece for varying parts of the surgical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20050038417
Abstract: A tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. The tip assembly has an inner connector and an outer cap. The outer cap contains an external thread for attaching the tip assembly to a handpiece. The inner housing contains an alignment tab and fits within the outer cap so as to allow rotation of the inner connector within the outer cap. The inner and outer liquefaction tip tubes are frictionally fit into a bore in the inner connector. The proximal end of the inner housing contains a gasket that seal the inner housing against the handpiece.
