Patent number: 7622882Abstract: The invention indicates a correct one of multiple rotor positions. For example, the invention can determine, in a PM machine, which of two possible positions a rotor is in when the position is known only within ±? radians. If the actual rotor position is known to be one of ? and ?+?, for example as indicated by a resolver, the proposed invention can be used to determine whether the actual position is ? or ?+?.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2007Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: Magna Electronics Inc.Inventors: Lei Hao, Zilai Zhao

Patent number: 7100733Abstract: A system for initializing a steering wheel in a steer-by-wire vehicle includes a steering wheel, a torque feedback actuator, a steering wheel angle sensor, and a controller. The controller is adapted to calculate a corrected steering wheel angle based upon the relative angular positions of the road wheels and the steering wheel as measured by the respective sensors. The controller then controls the torque feedback generator to rotate the steering wheel into a corrected position such that the torque feedback generator rotates the steering wheel a minimum angle. The controller issues a warning signal in response to any resistance to the correction, including interference from the vehicle driver.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2002Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Zilai Zhao
