Abstract: An electrical device includes an electrical conductor and a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). The PCBA includes a planar substrate having first and second primary surfaces. The second primary surface is adjacent to the electrical conductor. A point field detector is mounted to the first primary surface. A magnetic shielding array is constructed of a magnetic material, e.g., having a relative magnetic permeability of about 100-1000. The magnetic shielding array is mounted to or situated on the first and/or second primary surface of the planar substrate, and includes first and second flux shield portions flanking the point field detector. The point field detector and the magnetic shielding array are both located on the same side of the electrical conductor with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 7622882
Abstract: The invention indicates a correct one of multiple rotor positions. For example, the invention can determine, in a PM machine, which of two possible positions a rotor is in when the position is known only within ±? radians. If the actual rotor position is known to be one of ? and ?+?, for example as indicated by a resolver, the proposed invention can be used to determine whether the actual position is ? or ?+?.

  • Patent number: 7100733
Abstract: A system for initializing a steering wheel in a steer-by-wire vehicle includes a steering wheel, a torque feedback actuator, a steering wheel angle sensor, and a controller. The controller is adapted to calculate a corrected steering wheel angle based upon the relative angular positions of the road wheels and the steering wheel as measured by the respective sensors. The controller then controls the torque feedback generator to rotate the steering wheel into a corrected position such that the torque feedback generator rotates the steering wheel a minimum angle. The controller issues a warning signal in response to any resistance to the correction, including interference from the vehicle driver.
