  • Patent number: 9382468
Abstract: This invention is related to the oil and gas production industry and more particularly to a proppant that can be used to enhance oil and gas production in hydraulic fracturing. Most particularly, the invention is a composition and a manufacturing process for making ceramic proppant: a ceramic matrix composition formed from a precursor of the matrix and a reinforcing additive, in which the reinforcing additive is in the form of numerous elongated inorganic crystals; or one or more than one precursor may be pre-fired (pre-calcined).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 30, 2009
Date of Patent: July 5, 2016
    Assignee: Schlumberger Technology Corporation

  • Publication number: 20160145483
Abstract: Methods of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore, by providing a treatment fluid providing a treatment fluid comprising non-bridging fibers and particles comprising a degradable material,; by introducing the treatment fluid into the well bore; and by creating a plug with the treatment fluid.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 26, 2014
    Publication date: May 26, 2016
Inventors: Bruno Lecerf, Zinaida Yurievna Usova, Dmitriy Usoltsev
  • Publication number: 20150152321
Abstract: A method for forming proppant aggregates, for example downhole in an injection well, includes injecting a slurry including a thermo-responsive polymer with a low critical solution temperature and a proppant downhole, and heating the slurry above the low critical solution temperature of the polymer. The heating of the slurry above the low critical solution temperature of the polymer aggregates the proppant. A composition of the slurry includes a carrier fluid including a thermo-responsive polymer, a proppant, and optional additives.

  • Patent number: 8420578
Abstract: A low-density ceramic proppant is formed from a light aggregate of a natural mineral and a ceramic binding material in the form of a proppant granule. The light aggregate expands in volume when burnt so that the density of the aggregate is changed. A method of preparing a proppant material is carried out by pre-crushing and pre-mixing of raw components. This is followed by their granulation into proppant granules, drying and screening of the granules to a selected size. The raw components include at least a ceramic binding material and a light aggregate of a natural mineral that, when burnt, expands in volume so that the specific volume of the aggregate is changed. The burning of the light aggregate may be accomplished before or after the aggregate is mixed with the binding material.

  • Publication number: 20110111990
Abstract: A synthetic ceramic proppant composition contains an aluminate-borate phase or an aluminate-borate-silicate phase or both and at least one additional phase that adds strength and decreases apparent specific gravity and is formed because of the inclusion of certain inorganic salts and/or metallic oxides in the precursor mixture either as separate components or as impurities in the starting materials. Compositions, methods of manufacture, and uses are given.
