  • Patent number: 6290496
Abstract: Oral hygiene apparatus for destroying sensitized oral bacteria, comprising: an incoherent light source; and a light directing member, adapted for directing light from light source and onto at least part of a surface of at least one tooth within an oral cavity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 1999
Date of Patent: September 18, 2001

  • Publication number: 20010012636
Abstract: A pH sensitive chewing gum kit is provided. The kit may contain chewing gum incorporating a pH sensitive substance. When chewed, the gum may change it's color in response to the oral fluids or salivary pH level. The chewing gum kit may also contain chewing gum with or without artificial sweeteners and one or more pH sensitive members including at least one pH sensitive substance incorporated in at least one portion thereof. When a pH sensitive member is put in contact with oral fluids or saliva, before, during or after chewing the gum, the color of the pH sensitive substance may change to a color which depends on the oral fluids pH value. This color may indicate whether the gum still needs to be chewed in order to achieve a desired oral fluids pH level.

  • Patent number: 6214034
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selective photothermolysis of a target tissue within surrounding tissue. The target and the surrounding tissue are heated to a predetermined temperature of about 60° C. by a pulsed heat source such as a flash lamp which creates a temperature gradient in the air included in a cavity formed between the housing of the apparatus and the surrounding tissue. The surface temperature of the tissue is monitored by a sensor unit. When the tissue surface reaches the predetermined temperature the target tissue is heated to the point of coagulation, preferably by narrow band electromagnetic radiation. The temperature difference between the coagulating target and the surrounding tissue is sufficiently mild that heat diffusing out of the target does not damage the surrounding tissue, even in the case of a relatively large target such as varicose veins.

  • Patent number: 6187001
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing hairs from a region of skin, the apparatus including: a housing having an opening therein, the housing forming a cavity enclosing a volume of air when the opening is placed in contact with the region of skin; a switchable heat source disposed within the housing that rapidly heats the volume of air to a temperature sufficient to destroy the hair by conduction of heat along the length of the hair to a follicle thereof; and a power source that controllably energizes the heat source.

  • Patent number: 5759200
Abstract: A method and device for selective photothermolysis of a surgical target within surrounding tissue. The target and the surrounding tissue are heated to about 60.degree. C. Then the target is heated to the point of coagulation, preferably by monochromatic light. The temperature difference between the coagulating target and the surrounding tissue is sufficiently mild that heat diffusing out of the target does not damage the surrounding tissue, even in the case of a relatively large target such as varicose veins.

  • Patent number: 5208417
Abstract: A method and system for aiming a small caliber weapon at a target wherein a light beam is directed from the weapon towards an area of the target so as to form a light spot on an object in the target area and the light spot is imaged on a two-dimensional detector so as to form an image thereon whose displacement from an origin of the detector bears a predetermined relationship to a corresponding displacement of the object from a center of the target. The image of the light spot is projected on to a visor worn by a marksman having a reference mark thereon for visually determining the center of the target, and the cycle is repeated as required until the projected image of the light spot on the visor is coincident with the reference mark.
