  • Patent number: 9340768
Abstract: The present invention includes a system and method for making a biofuel comprising: providing a nitrogen-limiting, minimal growth media comprising glycerol, sugars generated from cellulosic biomass or both, under conditions in which an oleaginous microbe converts the growth media into at least one of triacylglycerol, neutral lipids, fatty acids, long-chain fatty acids, and hydrocarbons that is secreted by the microbe.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 16, 2009
Date of Patent: May 17, 2016
Assignee: THE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEM
Inventors: Paul de Figueiredo, Lei Li, Zivko Nikolov, Brian D. Shaw, Martin B. Dickman, Eliezer S. Louzada, Joseph M. Sturino, Ying-Ying Chang
  • Patent number: 9066534
Abstract: Processes for improving the properties of byproducts of dry milling are described. In one process, fractionated plant seed tissue is soaked such that starch is loosened and washed away in the soaking liquid. A byproduct results that has decreased starch content, and when the byproduct includes germ tissue, has increased oil content. In a process, short soak times and lower temperatures are used as compared to traditional wet milling processes, and results in a byproduct that has both increased protein dispersibility index and increased oil content. Lower pH may further increase oil and protein dispersibility index levels. When a higher pH is used, protein dispersibility increases, regardless of the temperature of the soaking liquid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 8, 2008
Date of Patent: June 30, 2015
    Assignee: Corn Value Products
Inventors: Troy Lohrmann, David Paustian, Daniel Hammes, Zivko Nikolov

  • Patent number: 5059642
Abstract: A plastic and method of producing the same is disclosed where octenyl succinate starch metal ion complexes is combined with a plastic having hydrophobic tendencies. Preferred conditions of mixing are 165.degree. C. to 185.degree. C. temperature, with mixing occurring at 40 rpm to 60 rpm for 30 to 50 minutes.
